SAMUEL STICKNEY (1663–1714), son of Lieutenant Samuel Stickney and Julian Swan

MARY HASELTINE (1672–1731), daughter of Abraham Haseltine and Elizabeth Longhorne

Samuel, the son of Samuel and Julian Stickney, was born on 5 April 1663 in Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts. [1][2] He was baptized on 4 April 1675. He died on 30 December 1714 and is buried in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts. [2] His gravestone says: [2]

SAMUEL STICKNEY died Dec. 30, 1714 in 51 year of his age.

Samuel married Mary, the daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth (Langhorne) Haseltine. [2]

Mary, the daughter of Abraham Haseltine was born on 30 April 1672 in Rowley. [1][2] She was baptized on 5 May 1672 in Rowley. [3] She died on 5 January 1731. [4] She married second Joseph Tidd on 30 August 1722 in Bradford. [5] He died on 26 December 1730. [4] Joseph and Mary are buried together in the Old Burying Ground in Lexington, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. [4] The inscription on their gravestone says: [4]

Samuel Stickney of Bradford apparently died. His inventory was taken on 25 March 1715. His estate was complicated to settle and there are 53 documents in his estate papers. His widow Mary Stickney posted bond on his estate on 4 April 1715. On 7 May 1716 an account of administration was presented; on the back of this sheet are calculations and a list of names: widow Mary, Thomas, Elizabeth, Abraham, Jonathan, Richard and Dorothy. The same day, the judge of probate appointed a committee to set off one-third [for the widow] and to appraise the other two-thirds [so it could be divided] and Thomas Stickney posted a bond for the administration of the real estate. The estate papers include bonds posted the same day by Thomas Stickney requiring him to pay shares to his brothers Samuel, Abraham, Jonathan, Richard and his sisters Sarah, Mary, and Dorothy. There also bonds posted in 1722 requiring Samuel to pay shares to his brothers Jonathan, Thomas, Abraham, and Richard, and his sister Dorothy. [6]

Samuel's sons could write their signatures, and so could his daughters Elizabeth and Dorothy. His daughters Sarah and Mary were probably illiterate; they signed receipts for their shares if their father's estate with their mark.
