EDWARD HAZEN (d. 1683)

HANNAH UNKNOWN (d. 1716)

Edward Hazen died and was buried on 22 July 1683 in Rowley. [1][2] He married (first?) Elizabeth ___. She was buried on 18 September 1649 in Rowley, Essex county, Massachusetts. [1] He married second Hannah ___ in March 1650. [1] Hazen says she was the daughter of Thomas and Hannah Grant, but offers no evidence of this. [3]

Hannah ___ died in February 1715/6. [3] She married second Lieutenant George Browne on 17 March 1683/4 in Haverhill. [4] He died on 31 October 1669. [3]

Edward was a selectman in 1650, 1651, 1654, 1660, 1661, 1665, and 1668. [3]

Edward was an innkeeper. The March 1670, 1671, 1672, 1673, 1674, 1680, and 1681 quarterly courts renewed his license to draw liquor for a year. [5, 4: 234, 341; 5: 21, 140, 288; 7: 353; 8: 94]

Edward was called to the May 1680 court for profaning the Sabbath; he did not appear and was ordered to appear at the next court. Appearing, he was discharged. [5, 7: 378]

Administration on Edward's estate was granted to Hannah and his son Edward at the September 1683 court at Ipswich. [5, 9: 97] The administrators announced they had agreed Hannah would get her widow's third and the rest of Edward's estate would be divided equally among Edward's nine living children and William Gibson, husband of the deceased daughter Hannah, on behalf of her children. This was presented at the March 1684 court. [5, 9: 215]

Inventory was taken on Edward's estate on 24 September 1683. It amounted to £404-07-09. Hannah received her widow's third and the rest was divided among John and Isabel Wood, Nathaniel and Elizabeth Harris, Jeremiah and Priscilla Pearson, William Gibson (for his three children), and Thomas, Edward, Edna, Richard, Hephzibah, and Sarah Hazen.
