THOMAS HOWLETT (say 1637–1667), son of Ensign Thomas Howlett and Alice French

LYDIA PEABODY (bp. 1640–1715), daughter of Francis Peabody and Lydia Unknown

Thomas Howlett was born say 1637 probably in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts. [1] He died on 22 or 23 December 1667, probably in Ipswich. [2][3] He married Lydia Peabody by about 1662. [1][4]

Lydia Peabody was baptized on 30 August 1640 in Hampton, (now) Rockingham County, New Hampshire. [4] The widow Lydia Perley died on 30 April 1715 in Boxford. [4] She married second as his second wife Thomas Perley. [4]

Thomas Howlett, Jr. wrote his will on 21 December 1667. It was proved on 31 March 1668, upon the oath of John Redington and Isaac Cummings. Thomas said that if he had a son after his death, the son was to get a double portion; if he had a daughter, she should get one-third more than the other two. He left his wife his entire estate until his children were of age or married and after that she was to have half for life. He named his father Pabody and wife Elizabeth [!] his executors. Inventory on his estate was presented on 31 March 1688. Thomas owned a house, 100 acres of land, domestic animals, beds and bedding, apparel, kitchenware, tools, two guns, grain and books. His estate amounted to about 440 pounds. [3]

That Thomas's wife is referred to as Elizabeth in Thomas's will is undoubtedly a mistake. [4]

The "elder of his two daughters" married Thomas Hazen. [1]

A deed of 4 April 1687 says: [4]

[6] She married Thomas Hazen on 1 January 1682/3. [1][6] Thomas was the son of Edward and Hannah (Grant) Hazen and the grandson of Thomas and Hannah Grant. [6] Thomas was born on 29 February 1657/8 in Rowley. [5][6] He died on 12 April 1735, age 77, in Norwich. [6]
