THOMAS HARDY (c. 1635–1716), son of Thomas Hardy and Anne French

MERCY TENNEY (1644–1716), daughter of Thomas Tenney and Ann Mighill

Thomas Hardy was born about 1635, probably in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusett. [1] He died on 6 February 1716, age 81, in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts. [1] He married Mercy Tenney on 22 November 1664 in Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts. [2] It is said to have been the first marriage recorded at Rowley. [1]

Mercy, the son of Thomas Tenney, was born on 17 June 1644 in Rowley. [1] She died on 15 August 1716, age 72, in Bradford. [1][3]

Mercy was admitted to the Bradford church on 4 September 1694. Thomas, as "Old Thomas Hardy," was admitted on 12 July 1713. [1]

Children of Thomas Hardy and Mercy Tenney:

i. Mary Hardy was born on 25 August 1665 in Ipswich. [4]

Mary is not mentioned in Hardy and Hardy. [1] Mary and Ann's births are too close together to be possible.

ii. Ann Hardy was born on 26 April 1666 in Rowley. [1][2] She apparently died young.

iii. Thomas Hardy was born on 29 June 1667 in Bradford. [1][3] He apparently died between 1695 and 1716. [1]

iv. William Hardy was born on 11 January 1669 in Bradford or Ipswich. [1][3][4, "Georg"] He married Sarah Walker on 10 April 1703 in Bradford. [1][3] She died there on 23 September 1746, age 67. [1]

v. James Hardy was born on 13 February 1672 in Bradford. [1][3] He drowned there on 12 June 1689. [1][3]

vi. Captain Daniel Hardy was born on 2 April 1675 in Bradford. [1][3] He died there on 31 July 1756, age 81. [1] He married first Martha Wicom on 15 January 1701/2. [1] He married second Damaris Dickinson of Rowley on 16 July 1746 in Rowley. [1]

Daniel was a captain in the local militia. [1]

vii. Jacob Hardy was born on 25 March 1677 in Bradford. He died on 8 June 1753 in Bradford. He married Sarah Clark.

viii. Benjamin Hardy was born on 22 September 1679 in Bradford. [1][3] He probably died on 10 or 19 August 1763, "an aged man." [1] He married Rebecca Bond on 19 January 1709. [1] Rebecca, the daughter of Joseph Bond, died on 19 March 1775, "above 90 years," in Bradford. [1]

ix. Joseph Harding was born on 18 November 1680 in Ipswich. [4]

Joseph is not mentioned in Hardy and Hardy. [1]

x. Ebenezer Hardy was born on 3 May 1682 in Bradford. [1][3] He died there on 17 July 1682. [3]

xi. Isaac Hardy was born on 19 August 1683 in Bradford. [1][3] He died there on 6 January 1730. [1] He married Esther Barker on 6 April 1721. [1]

Isaac made his will on 24 November 1729, leaving Esther his estate for life. After the Esther's death his estate was to be divided among his remaining brothers and sisters. Daniel, however, was excluded on the grounds that he had inherited more of their father's estate than the others. [1][5]

xii. Hannah Hardy was born on 4 October 1686 in Bradford. [1][3] She was was baptized there on 25 August 1695. [3] She married Hugh Smith on 14 May 1719 in Bradford. [1]

xiii. Sarah Hardy was born on 9 June 1689 in Bradford. [1][3] She was baptized there on 25 August 1695. [3]
