THOMAS HARDY (c. 1605–1678)

ANNE FRENCH (bp. 1618–1689), daughter of Thomas French and Susan Riddlesdale

Thomas Hardy was born about 1605. He died on 4 January 1677/8 in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts. [1][2][3] Byrne and Hardy argue that he married Anne, the daughter of Thomas and Susan (Riddlesdale) French.

Anne French was baptized on 15 March 1617/8 in Assington, county Suffolk. [2] She died on 1 May 1689 in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts. [2][4]

Thomas migrated in 1633; he settled in Ipswich, then moved to Rowley and Bradford, all in Essex County, Massachusetts. [1]

Thomas was a ferry operator in Bradford. [1]

Thomas made his will on 4 March 1671/2. He added a codicil on 12 December 1677, where he noted that he was about 72. His wife was to have the sole use of house for her life. He left his eldest son Thomas 200 acres. He left his sons John, Joseph, and Jacob each 100 acres. He also left bequests to Mary and her husband Samuel Currier, Sarah and her husband William Hutchins, and William Hardy, when he came of age. [4]

Thomas left a relatively large estate. His inventory was taken on 7 March 1677/8 and amounted to £848-10-09. [1]
