SERGEANT JOSEPH GLEASON (1642–1685), son of Thomas Gleason and Susanna Page
MARTHA RUSSELL (1647–1684), daughter of William Russell and Martha Unknown
Joseph, the son of Thomas and Susanna (Page) Gleason, was born in 1642 in Watertown. [1] He died on 3 October 1685 in Sudbury. [2] Sergeant Joseph Gleason died on 20 November 1715 in Sudbury. [2] He married first Martha, the daughter of William and Martha Russell. [1] Joseph Gleason married second Abigail Garfield on 22 December 1688 in Sudbury. [2][3] Abigail, the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Gale) Garfield, was born on 29 January 1646 in Watertown. [3] She died on 31 August 1726 in Sudbury. [2][3]
Martha Russell was probably born in 1647 in Cambridge. [1] She died on 2 March 1683/4 in Sudbury. [2][3]
On 18 January 1716/7 Isaac Gleason, the only living son of his deceased father Joseph Gleason of Sudbury entered into an agreement with [his sisters and their husbands] Jacob and Joyce Newell of Attleboro, Samuel and Susanna (the eldest sister) Willis of Sudbury, Noah and Abigail (the third sister) Morse of Sherborn, and Samuel and Mary (the fourth and youngest sister) Bigelow of Marlboro. The agreement refers to Isaac's eldest brother, Joseph Gleason, deceased and his mother Abigail Gleason. Abigail was described as "old and crippled" and Isaac was to take care of her. [3]
Children of Corporal Joseph Gleason and Martha Russell:
i. Joseph Gleason died on 30 April 1669 in Sudbury. [2]
ii. Joseph Gleason was born on 18 October 1670 in Sudbury. [2] He died on 15 October 1711 in Sudbury. [2] He married Hannah Moore on 17 February 1705 in Sudbury. [2] Hannah was probably the daughter of Joseph and Lydia Moore, born on 2 January 1673 in Sudbury. [2] She died on 28 October 1730 in Sudbury. [2]
iii. Martha Gleason died on 3 October 1685 in Sudbury. [2]
iv. Susanna Gleason was born on 24 March 1676 in Sudbury. She died on 12 May 1756 in Sudbury. She married Samuel Willis.
v. Joyce Gleason was born on 21 April 1678 in Sudbury. [2] She died on 12 September 1724. [1]She married Jacob Newell on 23 May 1700 in Roxbury—the same day that her future brother-in-law Samuel Willis married Jacob's cousin Experience Newell in Roxbury. [3] Jacob, the son of Jacob and Martha (Gibson) Newell, [3] was born on 23 October 1658 in Roxbury. [1] He died on 4 February 1718 in Attleboro. [1]
vi. Abigail Gleason was born on 27 July 1680 in Sudbury. [2] She married Noah Morse on 4 November 1714 in Sherborn. [2] Noah, the son of Daniel and Lydia (Fisher) Morse, was born on 20 April 1681 in Sherborn and died there in 1718. [1]
vii. Mary Gleason was born on 6 October 1682 in Sudbury. [2] She died on 14 May 1752 in Shrewsbury. [3] She married as his second wife Samuel Bigelow on 4 December 1716.
viii. Isaac Gleason was born in February 1684 in Sudbury. [1] ] He died on 3 October 1685 in Sudbury. [2] He married Martha Livermore in 1705 in (now) Weston. [1] Martha, the daughter of John and Hannah Livermore, was born there on 11 April 1684. [1] She died on 12 April 1728 in Sudbury. [2]
ix. Thankful Gleason [1]
Thankful might have been the daughter of Joseph's second wife. [1]
