English Ancestry of Thomas Gleason [1]

John Armsbye was buried on 4 September 1623 in Cockfield. He married first Frances Frost on 1 May 1569 in Thrope Morieux, Suffolk. Frances, the wife of John was buried on 19 March 1615/6 in Cockfield.

In his will of 26 August 1623 John mentions his apparent daughters Margaret, the wife of John Death, Ann, the wife of Humphrey Sowgate, Mathew (Martha), the wife of Thomas Smith, and Rebecca, the wife of George Horner; his son John; his wife Rose.

Children of John Armsbye and an unknown presumably first wife:

i. Margaret Armsby (presumed daughter) was born say 1567. She died after 26 August 1623. She married John Death.

Children of John Armsbye and Frances Frost (all recorded events in Cockfield):

ii. Edmond Armsby was born by 5 December 1570. He married Parnel Bly by 28 November 1621.

iii. Anne Armsby was baptized on 6 November 1572.

iv. Mary Armsby was baptized on 15 July 1575. She was buried on 11 November 1575.

v. Martha Armsby was baptized on 16 November 1578. She died after 26 August 1623. She married Thomas Smith on 20 May 1604.

vi. Jeffrey Armsby was baptized on 6 November 1580. He was buried on 24 October 1619. He married Bridget Branson on 17 October 1610. She married second John Lumley on 10 June 1622.

vii. Isaac Armsby was baptized on 5 December 1582.

viii. Rebecca Armsby was baptized on 31 March 1585. She died after 26 August 1623. She married George Horner on 5 October 1608.

ix. John Armsby died after 26 August 1623.

Thomas Gleason was buried on 22 March 1609/10 in Hawstead. He married Anne Armsbye on 28 October 1602. Anne, the daughter of John Armsbye was baptized on 6 November 1572 in Cockfield. She married second Humphrey Sowgate of Felsham by a license dated 1 October 1610. Humphrey was buried on 11 March 1623/4 in Cockfield.

Thomas Gleason, husbandman of Cockfield, made his nuncupative will on 19 March 1609/10. He left his estate to his wife Anne and refers to his children.

Humphrey made his will on 8 March 1623/4; it was proved on 22 March 1623/4. He mentions his daughter Bridget, John Sowgate, the son of his brothr William, his son-in-law (that is, stepson) Thomas Gleisson, and is daughter-in-law Elizabeth Gleisson.

Children of Thomas Gleason and Anne Armsbye:

i. Susan Gleason was born say 1604.

ii. Elizabeth Gleason was born say 1606.

iii. Thomas Gleason was baptized on 3 September 1609 in Cocksfield.

Children of Humphrey Sowgate and Anne Armsbye: (all recorded events in Cockfield)

iv. Bridget Sowgate was baptized on 26 November 1612. She died after 8 March 1623/4.

v. Martha Sowgate was baptized on 12 August 1615. She probably died after 8 March 1623/4, as her father's will suggests he had multiple children.

Thomas Gleason (various spellings), the son of Thomas, was baptized on 13 September 1609 in Cockfield, Suffolk. [1] He died in the spring of 1686 in Cambridge. [2] He married Susanna Page "the last day of July" 1634. [1]

Cockfield is five miles from Hawstead, where his father-in-law lived.

Thomas deposed that he was 50 years old on 29 (10) 1657. [3]

Thomas Gleason of Cockfield (five miles from Hawstead) is in a 1638 enumberation of the able men of Suffolk between 16 and 60. [1]

Susanna Page, the daughter of Thomas and Susanna Page, was baptized on 4 December 1614 in Ingham, Suffolk. [1]

Susanna was the sister of William Page, an early landowner in Watertown. [1] William Page, planter of Watertown, made his will on 16 December 1664. He left bequests to his kinsman Thomas Leason, William Leason "now living with me," and his wife Hannah. [1]

Thomas Gleason was called to be a juror for Watertown at the Middlesex county court on 20 November 1656. [3]

The Middlesex county court issued a summons to Goodman Thomas Gleason on 15 October 1656, upon a complaint by Richard Sawtell of Watertown. [3] On 22 December 1658 the court issued a writ against Thomas Gleason, Sr. of Cambridge upon a suit of Thomas White of Charlestown. [3] Thomas and his wife were witnesses in a case on 1 April 1659 at the Middlesex court. [3] On 15 (9) 1660 the court issued a writ against Thomas's good in the hands of William Johnson upon a suit of [?] Dunster. The verdict was for the defendant. [3]

In 1658 Thomas moved to Charlestown and on 3 December he leased land from Captain Scarltt. [2] Questions about the owner ship of the land led to a series of lawsuits against Thomas. [2] On 24 (1) 1661/2 the court issued a writ agains Thomas upon a suit of Capt. Francis Norton and Nicholas Davison on behalf of Charlestown. [3] On 23 (10) 1671 the court issued a writ against Thomas, Sr. and his sons Thomas, Jr. and William upon a suit of Thomas Danforth. [3]

Children of Thomas Gleason and Susanna Page:

i. Susanna Gleason was baptized on 13 October 1635 in Cockfield. [1] She married Thomas Pratt, Sr.

The wife of Thomas Pratt, Sr. was named Susanna. [1]

ii. Thomas Gleason was baptized on 21 January 1637/8 in Cockfield. He married first Sarah Unknown. He married second Mary Unknown.

iii. Corporal Joseph Gleason was baptized on 19 November 1640 in Cockfield. [1] He died on 20 November 1715 in Sudbury. [2] He married first Martha Russell in 1677 in Cambridge. [2] Martha, the daughteer of William and Martha Russell, was probably born in 1647 in Cambridge and died on 2 March 1684 in Sudbury. [2] He married second Abigail Garfield on 22 December 1688. [2] Abigail, the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Gale) Garfield, was born on 29 June 1646 in Watertown and died on 31 August 1726 in Sudbury. [2]

Joseph testified that he was about 18 on 4 (2) 1660. [3]

iv. Frances Gleason was baptized on 4 May 1643 in Cockfield. [1] She was buried on 13 May 1644 at the All Saints Church in Hartest, Suffolk (six miles from Cockfield and five miles from Hawstead. [1]

v. John Gleason was born in 1647 in Watertown. [2] He died in 1689 in Sudbury. [2] He married Mary Ross on 10 January 1673 in Sudbury. [2] Mary, the daughter of James and Mary (Goodnow) Ross and the granddaughter of Thomas Goodnow, was born on 25 December 1656 or 1659. [2]

John was a soldier in King Philip's War. He served in Captain Joseph Syll's company, Major Willard's Regiment from 7 August 1675 to 25 January 1676. [2]

Inventory on John's estate was taken on 30 September 1689. [2]

vi. Philip Gleason was born in 1649/51 in Watertown. [2] He died about 1690 in Framingham. [2]

Philip was a soldier in King Philip's War. [2]

English Ancestry of Susanna Page [1]

Thomas Page was buried on 12 June 1637 at All Saints Church in Hawstead, Suffolk. He married Susanna Unknown. She was buried there on 30 August 1631. He left a widow Elizabeth who was buried there on 30 August 1631.

Thomas Page, yeoman of Hawstead, made his will on 5 January 1636/7. He mentioned his wife Elizabeth; his daughter Mary, the wife of Thomas Lock; his son William; his daughter Susan, wife of Thomas Gleeson; his sons John and Joseph.

Children of Thomas and Susanna Page:

i. Mary Page married Thomas Lock on 11 June 1625 in Hawstead.

ii. William Page married Hannah (Anna, Ann) Unknown. She married second Nicholas Wood. She married third Edwin Winn.

Ann Winn of Watertown, widow, made hr will on 9 September 1685. She left legacies to John Coolidge, Sr., her brother-in-law Gleson, her kinsman Thomas Gleson, the wife of Thomas Pratt Sr., her kinsmen Joseph, John, Philip, Isaac, and William Gleson, and her kinswomen Mary and Ann Gleson.

An inventory of Hannah's estate on 11 November 1686 identifies her as Anna Winn, the relict of Edward Winn, Nicholas Wood and William Page.

iii. Susanna Page was baptized on 4 December 1614 in Ingham, Suffolk (eight miles from Hawstead).

iv. John Page was baptized on 10 June 1617 in Ingham.

v. Joseph Page was baptized on 24 June 1620 in Hawstead. He was buried there on 26 June 1620.

vi Joseph Page was baptized on 11 September 1622 in Hawstead.

vii. Isaac Gleason was born in 1654 in Watertown. [2] He died on 14 May 1698 in Enfield, Connecticut. [2] He married Hester Eggleston on 26 June 1684 in Windsor, Connecticut. [2] Hester, the daughter of James and Hester (Williams), the granddaughter of Begat Eggleston, and niece of Roger Williams, was born on 1 December 1663 in Windsor. [2]

viii. William Gleason was born in 1655 in Cambridge. [2] He died on 14 January 1690/1 in Cambridge. [2] He married Abiah (Abiel) Bartlett. [2] She was probaby born on 28 May 1651 in Watertown. [2]

William was a soldier in King Philip's War. He served under Captain Nathaniel Davenport and Captain Ting. [2] He was also a soldier in the French and Indian War from Cambridge. [2]

Inventory on William's estate, amounting to 42 pounds and two shillings, was taken on 20 February 1690. [2]

ix. Mary Gleason was born on 31 October 16157 in Cambridge. [2]

x. Ann Gleason was born in 1659 in Charleston. [2]
