SAMUEL WILLIS (1675–1758), son of Roger Willis and Ruth Hill

SUSANNA GLEASON (1676–1756), daughter of Corporal Joseph Gleason and Martha Russell


Samuel, the son of Roger and Ruth (Hill) Willis, was born on 1 April 1675 in Sudbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. [1, 155][2] He died on 26 November 1758 in Sudbury. [2] He married first Experience Newell on 23 May 1700 in Roxbury (in Boston). [2][3, 2: 439] Experience, the daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth (Curtis) Newell, was born on 29 January 1677 in Roxbury. [2][3, 1: 258; 2: 296] He married second Susanna Gleason before July 1703. [2]

Susanna, the daughter of Corporal Joseph and Martha (Russell) Gleason, was born on 24 March 1676 in Sudbury. [1, 50] She died there on 12 May 1756. [2]

Susanna is described as the daughter of Joseph Gleason and wife of Samuel Willis in an agreement entered into with her siblings. (See her father's entry.)

Children of Samuel Willis and Susanna Gleason:

i. Samuel Willis was born about 1705, probably in Sudbury. [2] He was buried there on 31 January 1778, age 73. [2] He married first Rebecca Haynes about 1727. [2] Rebecca, the daughter of James and Sarah (Noyes) Haynes, was born on 20 August 1705 in Sudbury. [1, 68][2] Samuel married second Jerusha Brintnall before 8 November 1730. [2] Jerusha, the daughter of Captain Thomas and Hannah (Willard) Brintnall, was born on 15 October 1704 in Sudbury. [1, 24, 173][2] Samuel married third Sybel Balcom on 6 October 1748. [1, 288][2] Sybel, the daughter of Joseph and Tabitha (Newton) Balcom, was born on 26 July 1721 in Sudbury. [1, 13][2] She was buried there on 28 January 1788, age 66. [2]

ii. Experience Willis was born about 1707. She was baptized on 10 April 1709 in Sudbury. She was buried on 6 August 1787 in Sudbury. She married Isaac Read.

iv. Joseph Willis was born on 10 November 1712 in Sudbury. [1, 154] He was buried there on 14 December 1799, age 87. [2] He married Thankful Clapp. [2] Thankful, the daughter of John and Silence (Foster) Clapp, was born on 18 January 1706/7 in Sudbury. [1, 33][2] She died there on 2 April 1794, age 87. [2]

iii. Elijah Willis was born on 6 March 1720 in Sudbury. [1, 153] He died there shortly before 16 February 1756. [2] He married Abigail Smith on 15 June 1738 in Sudbury. [1, 287][2] Abigail, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Smith, was born on 12 March 1721/2 in Sudbury. [1, 131][2] She was buried there on 1 December 1805, age 85. [2]
