JOHN BIGELOW (c. 1617–1703)

MARY WARREN (bp. 1624–1691), daughter John Warren and Margaret Unknown


John Bigelow was born about 1617 in England. He died on 14 July 1703, age 86, in Watertown. [1[ He married first Mary Warren on 30 October 1642 in Watertown. [1][2] He married second Sarah Bemis on 2 October 1694 in Watertown. [1] Mary, the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Bemis, was born on 15 January 1642/3 in Watertown. [1] She died between 4 January 1702/3 and 18 November 1712, leaving no issue. [1]

Mary, the daughter of John and Margaret Warren, was baptized on 12 September 1624 in Nayland, Suffolk. [1][2] She died on 19 October 1691 in Watertown. [1]

John's marriage record is his first record in Watertown. [1]

John was a blacksmith. [1]

John took the oath of fidelity in 1652. He was a surveyor of highways in 1652 and 1660. He was a fence viewer in 1654. He was a constable in 1663 and a selectman in 1660, 1670, and 1671. [1]

John served under Captain John Cutler in King Philip's War. [1]

John Bigelow, yeoman of Watertown, made his will on 4 January 1702/3; it was proved on 23 July 1703. His heirs were his unnamed wife, his eldest son John, his sons Jonathan, Daniel, Samuel, Jsohua, and James Bigelow, and his daughters Mary Flagg, Elizabeth Stearns, Sarah Learned, Martha Woods, and Abigail Harrington. He named his sons Joshua Bigelow and Isaac Learned his executors. Inventory was taken on 16 July 1703 and amounted to #627-12-00. [1]

i. John Bigelow was born on 27 October 1643. He died before 5 December 1721 in Hartford. [1] He married Rebecca Olmsted between 3 January 1666 and 1667/8. [1] Rebecca, the daughter of Nicholas and Sarah (Loomis) Olmsted, was born on 12 March 1647/8 and died after 5 December 1721. [1]

ii. Jonathan Bigelow was born on 11 December 1646. He died on 9 January 1710/1 in Hartford. [1] He married first Rebecca Shepherd by 1673. [1] Rebecca, the daughter of John and Rebecca (Greenhill) Shepherd, was born about 1650 in Hartford and died by 1686. [1] Jonathan married second Mary Olcott. [1] Mary, the daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Stocking) Olcott, died on 5 March 1697. [1] Jonathan married third Mary (Benton) Cole after 20 April 1708. [1] Mary, the daughter of Andrew and Hannah (Stocking) Benton was born on 14 March and baptized on 15 April 1655 in Milford and was buried on 23 December 1752 in Hartford. [1] She married first Nathaniel Cole. [1] She married third John Shepard on 19 March 1712/3 or 18 May 1712. [1]

iii. Mary Bigelow was born on 18 March 1648/9. She died on 3 September 1704 in Watertown. [1] She married Michael Flagg on 3 June 1674 in Watertown. [1]

iv. Daniel Bigelow was born on 1 December 1650. He died before June 1715 in Framingham. [1] He married Abial Pratt. [1] Abial, the duaghter of Thomas Pratt, Sr. of Framingham, died on 7 September 1720 in Watertown. [1]

v. Samuel Bigelow was born on 28 October 1653. He married Mary Flagg.

vi. Joshua Bigelow was born on 5 November 1655. He died on 21 February 1745 in Westminster, Massachusetts. [1] He married Elizabeth Flagg on 20 October 1676. [1]

vii. Elizabeth Bigelow was born on 18 June 1657. She died on 18 April 1694 in Billerical. She married John Stearns. [Ref]

viii. Sarah Bigelow was born on 29 September 1659. She died after 2 May 1702. [1] She married Isaac Learned on 23 July 1679. [1]

ix. Martha Bigelow was born on 1 April 1662. She did after July 1712. [1] She married Obadiah Wood by 6 November 1687. [1] Obadiah, the son of Thomas and Ann Wood, was born about 1652/3 and died on 11 April 1712 in Hartford. [1] He married first Catherine King. [1]

x. Abigail Bigelow was born on 14 February 1663/4. She died on 12 January 1754 in Weston. [1] She married Benjamin Harrington on 10 December 1684 in Watertown. [1] Benjamin, the son of Robert and Susanna (George) Harrington, was born on 26 January 1661/2 in Watertown and died on 27 March 1724 in Weston. [1]

xi. Hannah Bigelow was born on 3 or 4 March 1665/6. She died on 8 March 1665/6. [1]

xii. James Bigelow was born about 1667. He died on 20 January 1727/8 in Weston. [1] He married first Patience Brown on 25 March 1687 in Watertown. [1] Patience, the daughter of Jonathan and Mary (Shattuck) Brown, died before 19 February 1690/1. [1] James married second Elizabeth Child. Elizabeth, the daughter of John and Mary Child, was born on 24 July 1670 in Watertown and died there on 20 April 1707. [1] James married third Joanna Erickson of Boston on 15 June 1708 in Watertown. [1] She married second Adam Smith of Boston on 23 December 1728. [1]

xiii. Unnamed Son Bigelow was born and died on 18 December 1667. [1]
