Ruth Denison (1686–1779), daughter of John Denison and Ruth Ayer
Joseph, the son of Joseph and Love (Ayers) Kingsbury, was born on 22 June 1682 in Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts. [1] Deacon Joseph Kingsbury died on 1 December 1757, age 75, and is buried in the Franklin Plains Cemetery in Franklin, New London County, Connecticut. [2][3] He married Ruth Denison on 5 February 1705/6 in Haverhill. [1]
Ruth, the daughter of John and Ruth Denison, was born on 7 June 1686 in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts. [4] Ruth, the wife Deacon Joseph Kingsbury, died on 6 May 1779, age 92, and is buried in the Franklin Plains Cemetery. [3][5]
Ruth is called Ruth Kingsbury in the 24 July 1725 will of her father. Her brother John mentions his sister Ruth Kingsbury of Norwich and Joseph Kingsbury of Norwich in his will of 18 January 1754.
Ruth's gravestone says that she left five children, 41 grandchildren, 152 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. [3][5]
Joseph came to Norwich with his father and lived in the part that later became Franklin. Joseph, Jr. was admitted to the church in Franklin by letter on the same day as his parents, 4 January 1718. [6] Ruth was admitted on 22 March 1719 on profession. [6]
Joseph was appointed ensign of the trainband in the west society in Norwich on 14 May 1719. [7] He was appointed lieutenant on 12 October 1727. [7] He was appointed captain on 11 October 1742. [7] He was a deputy for Norwich on 14 October 1731, 7 May 1734, 11 May 1738, 10 May 1739, and 14 October 1742. [7]
Joseph Kingsbury of Norwich made his will on 3 February 1757. He left bequests to his wife Ruth, his sons Ephraim, Joseph, Ebenezer, Daniel and Nathaniel; his daughters Hannah Hyde, Love Backus, Ruth Edgerton and Tabitha Waldo; and the children of his daughter Eunice Backus. He named his son Ephraim his executor. Inventory of his estate was taken between 15 December 1757 and 4 January 1758 and it was exhibited on 6 May 1758. There are many pages describing his clothing, furniture, bedding, and tableware. Also included are "one Negro man named Cuff" (valued at 45 pounds) and "one Negro woman named Phillis" (valued at 36 pounds); both left to his wife. The total came to £710-10-08. [8]
Ruth freed Cuff and Phillis in December 1773. They moved to Tolland, were they fell into want. The town sued Ebenezer, the executor if his mother's estate for their support. [9]

i. Deacon Ephraim Kingsbury was born on 4 January 1706/7. Deacon Ephraim died on 7 November 1772, age 65, and is buried in the Franklin Plains Cemetery in Franklin. [3] He married Martha Smith on 3 July 1728 in Franklin. [6] She died on 24 October 1771, age 60, and is buried in the Plains Cemetery. [3]
Ephraim Kingsbury of Norwich made his will on 20 October 1772. He named his son Joshua "if he now be alive," and his seven other children—Asa, Absalom, Obadiah, Ephraim, Martha Rockwell, Talitha Rust and Anna Kingsbury—and his grandson Amos Avery. His witnesses testified on 4 December 1772; probate was on 28 March 1774; a division agreement was signed on 6 September 1774. [8]
ii. Hannah Kingsbury was born on 13 March 1708. She died on 16 March 1770 and is buried in the Old Bennington Cemetery, in Bennington, Bennington County, Vermont. [3] She married Captain Jacob Hyde of Norwich on 11 October 1728 in Franklin. [5][6] Captain Jacob, also known as Deacon Jacob, died on 22 January 1782 and is buried in the Pautipaug Cemetery in Franklin. [3]
iii. Love Kingsbury was born on 23 February 1710/1. She died on 29 February 1778. [3] She married Josiah Backus on 30 November 1732 in Franklin. [6] Josiah Backus died on 8 June 1779. [3]
Josiah and Love are buried in the Old Norwichtown Cemetery in Norwich. [3]iv. Ruth Kingsbury was born on 24 February 1712/3. She died on 13 November 1769. [3] She married Joshua Edgerton on 28 January 1735 in Franklin. [3]
Joshua and Ruth are buried in the Plains Cemetery. [3]
v. Captain Joseph Kingsbury was born on 27 February 1714/5 in Norwich, New London County, Connecticut. He died on 27 or 28 October 1788 in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut. He married Deliverance Squire.
vi. Deacon Ebenezer Kingsbury was born on 11 February 1716/7. He died between 9 August 1786 and 4 October 1800. He married Priscilla Kingsbury. [5] She died between 13 November 1800 and 29 March 1805.
Deacon Ebenezer and Priscilla are buried in the North Coventry Cemetery in Coventry, Tolland County. [3]
Priscilla is said to be the daughter of Ebenezer's uncle Nathaniel. [3] This would make Ebenezer and Priscilla double first cousins—rather closely related—as Nathaniel was married to the Ebenezer's mother's sister.
Ebenezer Kingsbury of Coventry made his will on 9 August 1786. He named his wife Priscilla, his sons Joseph and Ebenezer, and his daughters Priscilla Pomeroy and Martha Edgarton Kingsbury. Probate was on 4 October 1800. The heirs of Deacon Ebenezer—his widow Priscilla Kingsbury and Joseph and Ebenezer Kingsbury and Eleazar and Priscilla Pomeroy was signed on 22 October 1800. [8]
Priscilla Kingsbury of Coventry made her will on 13 November 1800. She named her son Joseph Kingsbury, her daughter Priscilla Pomeroy, her daughter Martha E. Kingsbury, and her son Ebenezer. One of her bequests was her library. Her inventory was exhibited by her executor Eleazar Pomeroy on 29 March 1805. [8]
vii. Eleazar Kingsbury was born on 7 February 1718/9. He died on 6 October 1785 and is buried in the North Tolland Cemetery in Tolland, Tolland County. [3] He married first Freelove Rust. [3] She died on 5 December 1757 and is buried in the South Yard Cemetery in Tolland. [3] He left a widow Elizabeth.
Eleazar Kingsbury of Tolland made his will on 6 January 1779; his witnesses testified on 17 October 1785. He named his wife Elizabeth, his son Eleazar, his daughters Ann Redington and Sarah Carlton, his granddaughter Freelove Stanley and his son Samuel Rust Kingsbury. [8]
viii. Eunice Kingsbury was born on 14 October 1722. She died on 7 December 1751. [3] She married Jabez Backus. [3]
Jabez and Eunice are buried in the Old Norwichtown Cemetery. [3]
ix. Daniel Kingsbury was born on 14 December 1724. He died on 7 September 1760, age 35, and is buried in the Franklin Plains Cemetery. [3] He married Abigail Barstow. [3] Abigail died in 1809 and is buried in the Plains Cemetery. [3]
Daniel Kingsbury of Norwich, being "sick and weak," made his will on 25 July 1760. He mentioned his wife Abigail, his sons Daniel and Joseph, and his daughters Abigail, Lucretia and Mary. Inventory was taken on his estate in September 1760. It amounted to about 972 pounds, plus 272 pounds of debt due him. [8]
x. Tabitha Kingsbury was born on 7 October 1726. She died on 18 January 1789. [3] She married Zacheus Waldo. [3][5]
Zacheus and Tabitha are buried in the Old Scotland Cemetery. [3]
xi. Irene Kingsbury was born on 6 March 1729. She died on 15 August 1729 in Norwich. [2]
xii. Nathaniel Kingsbury was born on 7 February 1730/1. He died on 15 December 1784, age 54, and is buried in the Franklin Plains Cemetery. [3] He married Sarah Hill of Cambridge, Massachusetts on 4 September 1755. [5] Sarah, the wife of Nathaniel, died on 21 October 1789, age 54, and is buried in the Franklin Plains Cemetery. [3]
Nathaniel and his son Nathaniel, Jr. died of fevers on the same day. [3]
Nathaniel Kingsbury of Norwich, being "sick and weak," made his will on 11 December 1784. He named his wife, his daughters Sarah, Tabitha and Bethiah, and his sons Jacob, Charles and John. His son Jacob posted bond on 4 January 1785. [Ref]
