Joseph, the son of Joseph, Jr. and Ruth Kingsbury, was born on 27 February 1714/5 in Norwich, New London County, Connecticut. [1] Captain Joseph Kingsbury died on 27 (grave) or 28 (town record) October 1788 in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut. [2][3] Joseph Kingsbury 3rd married Deliverance Squire on 28 March 1738 in Norwich. [1]

Deliverance, the daughter of Daniel and Deliverance (Wilson) Squire was born on 13 December 1715 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. [4] Deliverance, the wife of Captain Joseph Kingsbury, died on 31 October 1782 in Pomfret. [2]

Joseph and Deliverance are buried in the South Cemetery in Pomfret. Joseph's gravestone says, "In memory of Capt. Joseph Kingsbury, who died Oct 27th 1788 in the 74th year of his age. Adieu my friends my Childen dear." Deliverance's says, "In memory of Mrs. Deliverance wife of Capt. Joseph Kingsbury. Who died Oct ye 3d 1782 in ye 67 year of her age." [3]

Joseph and Deliverance were admitted to the church in West Farms on profession on 21 February 1742. [5] West Farms (later Franklin) was the second ecclesiastical society in Norwich. They were admitted to the church in Scotland in Windham "by letter" on 22 March 1752. [5]

Children of Joseph Kingsbury and Deliverance Squire: Births of the first six recorded in Norwich as the children of Joseph 3rd and Deliverance [1]; their baptisms recorded in the church in West Farms. [5] Births of the other children recorded in Windham as the children of Captain Joseph and Deliverance. [2]

i. Ebenezer Kingsbury was born on 5 May 1739. He was baptized on 15 July 1739. He died in January 1825, age 84, and is buried in the South Cemetery in Pomfret. [3] He married Margaret Parrish—the town record calls him Ebenezer Kingsley—on 24 May 1761 in Windham. [2] Margaret, the daughter of Isaac and Margaret (Smith) Parrish, was born on 10 October 1735 in Windham. [2]

Ebenezer and Margaret are buried in the South Cemetery in Pomfret. [3] Ebenezer's gravestone says, "Ebenezer Kingsbury Esq. Died Jan. 1825 in the 85 year of his age." Margaret's says, "In memory of Mrs. Margaret Kingsbury wife of Ebenezer Kingsbury Esq. who died Nov. 22d 1804 In her 70th year." [3]

ii. Chloe Kingsbury was born on 13 January 1740/1. She was baptized on 22 February 1741. She married Ebenezer Fitch on 4 May 1760 in Windham. [2] Ebenezer, the son of Captain John and Alice (Fitch) Fitch of Windsor, was born on 30 November 1736 in Windham. [6]

iii. Sanford Kingsbury was born on 7 April 1743. He was baptized on 10 April 1743. He died at his daughter's house in Claremont, Sullivan County, New Hampshire on 12 November 1833. [7] He married Elizabeth Fitch on 9 January 1766 in Windham. [2] Elizabeth, the sister of Sanford's brother-in-law Ebenezer Fitch, was born on 4 October 1743 in Windham. [6] Long an invalid, she died on 14 January 1832. [7]

Sanford graduated from Yale in 1763. "Being in delicate health after graduation, he was prevented from following any profession." [7]

Sanford was admitted to the church in Scotland on 29 March 1772; his wife Elizabeth was admitted on 1 August 1773. [5]

Sanford was appointed a second lieutenant in October 1776 and a captain in 1777. [7] Sanford Kingsbury, age 89, of Claremont filed for a Revolutionary War pension under the 7 June 1832 act on 1 August 1832. He said he entered the service from Windham and had served as a lieutenant and a captain. [8]

Shortly before 1780, Sanford settled on a farm in Claremont on the banks of the Connecticut River. In 1870 he was a major in the New Hampshire militia. He was a justice of the peace, a representative of Claremont in the state legislature, a member of the state senate, a member of the convention to revise the state constitution, and a judge of probate. [7]

"He was small of stature, and kind and courteous in manner." [7]

iv. Ruth Kingsbury was born on 25 March 1745. She was baptized on 5 May 1745.

v. Abigail Kingsbury was born on 30 January 1746/7. She was baptized on 15 March 1747. She died on 18 December 1807. She married Captain James Cary.

vi. Joseph Kingsbury was born on 14 February 1748/9. He was baptized on 26 March 1749. He died on 12 January 1759 in Windham. [2]

vii. Jerusha Kingsbury was born on 3 April 1751.

viii. Eunice Kingsbury died on 28 October 1766 in Windham. [2]

ix. Deliverance Kingsbury was born on 12 August 1755. She died on 25 August 1823, age 68, in Brooklyn, Windham County. [2] She married Joseph Scarborough on 24 March 1780 in Pomfret. [2] Joseph, the son of Jeremiah and Mary (Holbrook) Scarborough, was born on 17 June 1756 in Pomfret. [2] He died on 22 August 1827 in Brooklyn. [2]

Brooklyn was part of Canterbury and Pomfret until 1786.

x. Irena Kingsbury was born on 24 February 1758. She died on 9 August 1759 in Windham. [2]

xi. Ama Kingsbury was born on 17 March 1761. She died on 19 December 1775, age fourteen, and is buried in the South Cemetery in Pomfret. [Ref]

Ama's gravestone says, "Here lies Ama Daughter of Capt. Joseph & Mrs. Delivce Kingsbury who Died Decemr ye 19th 1775 in ye 15th year of her Age." [Ref]
