Lieutenant Joseph Kingsbury (c. 1657–1741), son of Henry Kingsbury and Susanna Unknown

Love Ayer (1663–1735), daughter of Thomas Ayer and Elizabeth Hutchins


Deacon Joseph Kingsbury was born about 1657. He died on 9 April 1741, age 84, and is buried in the Franklin Plains Cemetery in Franklin. [1] He married Love Ayer on 2 April 1679 in Haverhill. [2]

Love, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Hutchins) Ayer, was born on 15 April 1663 in Haverhill. [2] the wife of Joseph Kingsbury, died on 24 April 1735, age 72, and is buried in the Franklin Plains Cemetery. [1]

Joseph Kingsbury of Haverhill was made free on 11 October 1682 in Boston. [3, 8: 444]

Joseph was a bookkeeper for Captain Simon Wainwright, a merchant of Haverhill, in 1708 when Captain Wainwright was killed by the Indians and his house burnt. Joseph left Haverhill the same year for Norwich. [4]

Joseph and Love were admitted to the church in Franklin by letter on 4 January 1718. [5]

Children of Joseph Kingsbury and Love Ayer:

i. Captain Joseph Kingsbury was born on 22 June 1682 in Haverhill. He died on 1 December 1757 in Norwich. He married Ruth Dennison.

ii. Captain Nathaniel Kingsbury was born on 23 August 1684 in Haverhill. [3, 9: 429][4] He died on 18 September 1763, age 79. Nathaniel of Norwich married Hannah Dennison of Ipswich after 2 April 1709 (intention) in Ipswich. [6] Hannah was the sister of his brother Joseph's wife. [4] She died on 14 May 1772, age 81. Nathaniel and Hannah are buried in the Old Andover Cemetery in Andover, Tolland County, Connecticut. [7]

The inscription on Nathaniel's gravestone says, "In memory of Capt. Nathaniel Kingsbury, who died September ye 18th 1763, in ye 80th year of his age." The inscription on Hannah's gravestone says, "Here lyes ye body of Mrs. Hannah Kingsbery, consort of Capt. Nathaniel Kingsbery, who departed this life May ye 14th A.D. 1772 in ye 82nd year of her age." [7]

iii. Elizabeth Kingsbury was born on 10 May 1686 in Haverhill and died there on 24 May 1686. [4]

iv. Mary Kingsbury was born on 19 October 1687 in Haverhill. [4]

v. Elizabeth Kingsbury was born on 16 October 1693 in Haverhill. [4] She died on 21 August 1750 and is buried in the North Cemetery in Hampton, Windham County, Connecticut.[7] She married Samuel Ashley. [7] Samuel is buried in the Old Litchfield Cemetery in Hampton.[7]

vi. Susanna Kingsbury was born on 24 September 1695 in Haverhill. [4]
