THOMAS READ (b. 1678), son of Thomas Read and Mary Goodrich

MARY BIGELOW (1677–1708), daughter of Samuel Bigelow and Mary Flagg

Thomas, the son of Thomas and Mary Read, was born on 22 March 1677/8 in Sudbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. [1, 118] He married Mary [Bigelow] Bruce on 3 December 1701, in Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. [2, 2: 16] He married Abigail Bacon on 1 July 1708 in Sudbury. [1, 257]

Mary, the daughter of Samuel and Mary Bigelow, was born on 12 September 1677 in Watertown. [2, 1: 43] She died on 21 February 1707/8 in Sudbury. [1, 322] Mary of Watertown married first David Bruce of Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts on 26 January or 2 February 1699 in Watertown. [2, 2: 6][3, 234][4] David, the son of Thomas and Magdalen Bruce of Sudbury, was born about 1675. [4] David, the husband of Mary Bigelow, died on 22 or 27 July 1701 in Marlborough. [3, 351]

David Bruce's father-in-law, Samuel Bigelow, husbandman of Watertown, was granted administration on David's estate. He posted bond on 28 July 1701. Inventory was taken on 28 July 1701. Samuel was granted the guardianship of his grandson David Bruce on 13 January 1709. [5]

Mary's father left a bequest to son-in-law Thomas Read in his will of 30 September 1720. He also left land in Marlborough to his grandson David Bruce and twenty shillings each to his grandchildren Nathaniel, Isaac, and Thomas Read, when they came of age. He left his granddaughter 17 pounds when she came of age or married and everything of her mother's in his keeping. [5]

i. David Bruce was born on 20 December 1700 in Marlborough. [3, 50][4] He married first Mary, the daughter of Jonathan and Mary (Fay) Brigham. [4] He married second Hannah Pierce. [4]

i. Captain Nathaniel Read was born on 6 October 1702. Captain Nathaniel Read died on 9 June 1785, age 82, in Warren, Worcester County, Massachusetts. [6, 187] He married Phebe Unknown. She died on 10 September 1788, age 79, in Warren. [6, 187]

ii. Isaac Read was born on 23 February 1704 in Sudbury. He was buried there on 28 May 1780. He married Experience Willis.

iii. Thomas Read was probably born about 1705.

Thomas is mentioned in his grandfather Samuel Bigelow's will.

iv. Katherine Read was born on 31 January 1706/7.

v. Mary Read was born on 1 May 170[9?]. She married Samuel Burbanks on 10 March 1729/30 in Sudbury. [1, 256]

vi. Abigail Read was born on 12 February 1710/1. She is probably the Abigail of Sudbury who married Daniel Winch on 11 March 1742 in Sudbury. [1, 255][7, 400] Daniel, the son of Samuel and Sarah (Barnard) Winch, was born on 28 June 1702 in Framingham. [2, 2: 6][7, 208]

vii. Daniel Read was born on 19 May 1714. He married Rebecca Mead on 13 April 1737 in Sudbury. [1, 256]

viii. Betty Read was born on 16 June 1716. She married John Bent on -- 173- [torn] in Sudbury. [1, 255] John, the son of David and Mary Bent, was born on 22 October 1713 in Framingham. [7, 24]

ix. Lydia Read was born on 20 August 1718. She married Edward Grout on -- 173- [torn] in Sudbury. 1, 256]

x. Joseph Read was born on 4 December 1722.
