JOHN LELAND (1687–1759), son of Hopestill Leland and Abigail Hill

ABIGAIL BADCOCK (1686–1740), daughter of Ebenezer Badcock and Hannah Barbour

John, the son of Hopestill and Abigail Leland, was born on 11 October 1687 in Sherborn. [1,56] He died on 7 January 1759. [2] He married first Abigail Badcock on 10 May 1710 in Sherborn. [3, 147] He married second Sarah (Morse) Bullard, the widow of Isaac Bullard, on 12 July 1744 in Holliston. [2][4, 232]

Abigail, the daughter of Ebenezer and Hannah Badcock, was born on 5 March 1686 in Sherborn. [3, 11] Abigail, the wife of John, died on 28 June 1740 in Holliston. [4, 327]

John Leland and his wife Abigail relinquished further claims to the estate of Abigail's father Ebenezer Badcock on 4 March 1719. [5]

John Leland settled in the northern part of Holliston and became the clerk there. [2]

John Leland, yeoman of Holliston, made his will on 9 May 1755; probate was on 22 January 1759. He left his sons Samuel and John land, books, wearing apparel, and husbandry tools. Some of the land left to Samuel was land that had been laid out for his grandfather Badcock. He also left bequests to his wife Sarah, his three granddaughters Abigail, Deborah, and Hannah, his grandsons Abner Johnson, Isaac Johnson and Reuben Johnson, and the Holliston church. [5]

Children of John Leland and Abigail Badcock:

i. Samuel Leland was born on 3 May 1711 in Sherborn. [3, 58] He died in 1792. [2] Samuel Leland of Holliston married Dinah White on 30 December 1736 in Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts. [6, 337]

ii. John Leland was born on 10 June 1713 in Sherborn. [3, 53] John Leland of Holliston married [his second cousin] Lydia Leland on 2 June 1737 in Sherborn. [3, 147] Lydia, the daughter of Ebenezer and Martha Leland, was born on 20 August 1716 in Sherborn. [3, 57] She was the granddaughter of Ebenezer Leland. [3, 55]

iii. Abigail Leland was born on 28 March 1716 in Sherborn. She died on 23 August 1745 in Holliston. She married Isaac Johnson.
