WILLIAM KING (1655–1690), son of William King and Sarah Griggs
DEBORAH PRINCE (bp. 1658–by 1713), daughter of John Prince and Margaret Unknown
William King, the son of William and Sarah (Griggs) King was born on 6 November 1655 in Boston. [1] He died there on 1 May 1690. [1] He married Deborah Prince on 11 July 1678 in Hingham.
Deborah, the daughter of John and Margaret Prince, was born on 26 August 1657 in Hingham. [1][2] She was baptized on 23 August 1658 in Hingham. [1] She probably died by 8 May 1713. She probably married second Robert Smith. [1] He died on 13 October 1725. [1] Robert married [perhaps third] Elizabeth Allen on 8 May 1713 in Boston. [1] She died on 25 March 1733. [1]
Reverend Peter Hobart of Hingham wrote in his journal on 2 August 1658, "Deborah Prince bapt." On 11 July 1678 he wrote, "William King married to Deborah Prince." [3]
William and his half-siblings James and Sarah Burgess petitioned to divide land inherited from their grandfather Briggs. [1]
Deborah is called the wife of William King in her father's will of 11 June 1689. He left her 20 shillings and also named his grandchildren William and Deborah King. [1]
Deborah was admitted to the Old South Church in Boston in 1683. [1]
William made his will on 29 April 1690. He mentioned his wife and children, but not by name. His widow Deborah took oath to his inventory, valued at £314-08-97 on 8 February 1690/1. [1]
A "Widdow Kinge" is on a 1691 Boston tax list. [1] She is probably the Deborah King licensed to sell spirits on 26 June 1693. [1]
Children of William King and Deborah Prince:
i. Deborah King was baptized on 18 May 1679 in Hingham. She married John Calef.
ii. William King was born on 1 October 1648 in Boston and died there on 17 July 1695, age 11. [1] He is buried in the Granary Burying Ground. [1]
iii. John King was born on 22 September 1686. [1] There is no further record of him. [1]
iv. James King was born on 27 January 1688 in Boston. [1] He died therebetween 9 September 1710 and 20 December 1711. He married Rachel Stevens there on 21 July 1709. [1] She married second 28 October 1719 in Boston. [1]
James King, tailor of Boston, made his will on 9 September 1710; it was probated on 20 December 1711. He left his estate to his wife Rachel and his daughter. If the daughter should die, it was to be divided between Rachel and "my sister Deborah Calef." [1]
Children of Robert Smith and Deborah Prince:
i. Margaret Smith was born on 1 June 1695 in Boston and died there on 8 June 1695. [1]
ii. John Smith was born on 10 February 1696/7 in Boston. [1] There is no further record of him. [1]
iii. Thomas Smith was born on 17 August 1699 in Boston and died there on 24 August 1723. [1] He is buried in the Granary Burying Ground in Boston. [1]
