JEDIDIAH BARKER (1735–1766), son of James Barker and Elizabeth Kilbourne

SARAH STICKNEY (b. 1735), daughter of Samuel Stickney and Elizabeth Hardy


Jedidiah, the son of James and Elizabeth Barker, was born on 14 April 1735 in Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts. [1, 19][2][3] He was baptized on 20 April 1735 in Rowley. [4] He drowned in the [Merrimack] River in October or November 1766 in Bradford, Essex County. [5. 296] He married Sarah Stickney on 11 February 1757 in Bradford. [5, 181]

Sarah, the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Stickney, was born on 6 July 1735 in Bradford. [5, 154]

Bradford is now part of Haverhill, Essex County.

Children of Jedidiah Barker and Sarah Stickney: The last four recorded in Bradford as the children of Jedidiah and Sarah [5, 19]

i. John Barker was born on 21 April 1758 in Haverhill. He died on 22 October 1828, probably in Bethel, Oxford County, Maine. He married Mary Jackman.

ii. James Barker was born on 17 January 1760 in Bradford. According to his gravestone, he died on 23 January 1842, age 82, and is buried in the Skillingston Cemetery in Bethel. [6] He married first Elizabeth Brown of Byfield, Rowley, on 22 February 1781 in Newbury. [5, 181] She died on 24 February 1811 in Dorchester, Grafton County, New Hampshire and is buried in the Big Pasture Cemetery in Dorchester, Grafton County, New Hampshire. [6][7][8] James married second Sally Pierce on 17 January 1813 in Hebron, Grafton County, New Hampshire. [7][8]

James Barker was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. James of Dorchester, New Hampshire, age 61, testified that he had served in Captain Carr's Company, Colonel Weston's Regiment in the Massachusetts Line for nine months from June 1778. He described his poverty. He was a farmer, only able to work half time. His wife Sarah, age 46, was of a "slender constitution" and unable to work; he had four children at home. His total real and personal estate amounted to only 107.10 dollars. [8]

iii. Deacon Samuel Barker was born on 21 January 1762 in Bradford. He died on 25 March 1831. [6] He married first Betsey Rogers. [6][9] She died on 14 December 1812. [6] He married second Abigail Blanchard. [6][9] She died on 22 May 1844. [6]

Samuel and his two wives are buried in the Skillingston Cemetery. [6]

Samuel went to Bethel in 1803 and ran the ferry called "Barker's Ferry." [9] He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and a deacon in the church. [9]

iv. Susanna Barker was born on 21 December 1763 in Bradford. She died on 24 July 1847. [6] She married Eliphalet Burbank in January 1781 in Bradford. [5, 181] Eliphalet, the son of Abraham and Abigail (Savory) Burbank, was born on 22 June 1760 in Bradford. [5, 23, 186] Captain Eliphalet Burbank died on 4 July 1816. [6]

Eliphalet and Susanna are buried in the Tallyrand G. Lary Cemetery in Gilead, Oxford County, Maine. [6]

Eliphalet was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.

v. Elizabeth Barker was born on 17 September 1765 in Bradford. She died in September 1839, age 73. [6] She married Joseph Danforth in January 1786 in Bradford. [5, 181] Joseph, the son of Stephen and Betty (Parker) Danforth (Danford), was born on 6 October 1763 in Bradford. [5, 40, 199] He died on 12 February 1846, age 83. [6]

Joseph and Elizabeth are buried in the Union Cemetery in Laconia, Belknap County, New Hampshire. [6]
