CAPTAIN GEORGE BARBOUR (d. 1685)

ELIZABETH CLARK (d. 1683)


Captain George Barbour died on 12 April 1685 in Medfield. [1] He married first Elizabeth Clark on 24 November 1642 in Dedham. [2] He married second Joan, the widow of Anthony Fisher of Dedham. [3]

Elizabeth died on 22 December 1683 in Medfield. [1]

Elizabeth was admitted to the church in Dedham on 27 October 1643. [2]

George was an early settler of Medfield and contracted to build a mill there in November 1651. [3]

George served ten years as a selectman, 23 years as town clerk, four years as representative to the General Court and was for "some time" the principal military officer. [3]

Anne Uttinge, a single woman of Dedham who died on 2 December 1641, made an undated will leaving George Berbor of Dedham a feather bed and bedding. [4][5]

i. Elizabeth Barbour was born in 1641 and died in 1643. [3]

ii. Mary Barbour was born on 27 August 1643 in Dedham. [2][5] She was baptized there on 5 November 1643. [2] She died there on 23 November 1643. [2][5]

iii. Mary Barbour was born on 31 January 1644/5 in Dedham. [2][5] She died in 1700. [3] She married Jonathan Morse on 8 July 1666 in Medfield. [1] Jonathan, the son of Daniel Morse, was born in 1666 and died in 1727. [3]

iv. Captain Samuel Barbour was born on 6 January 1646/7 in Dedham. [2] He was baptized there on 17 January 1646/7. [2] He died on 29 December 1736 in Medfield. [1] He married Mary Harding on 22 December 1670 in Medfield. [1] She might be the Mary, daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth Harding, who was born in May 1653 in Medfield. [1] She died on 11 January 1730 in Medfield. [1]

Samuel was a schoolmaster in Medfield. He was a representative for five years, selectman for 31 years, and town clerk for 28 years. He was chosen deacon in 1710. [3]

v. John Barbour was born on 13 March 1649 in Dedham. [2] He died on 28 February 1688 in Medfield. [1] He married Abigail Badcock on on 17 December 1674.

vi. Elizabeth Barbour was born on 11 April 1651 in Dedham. [1] She died in 1714. [3] She was baptized there on 27 April 1651. [1] She married Daniel Morse on 21 June 1669 in Medfield. [1] Daniel was the brother of her sister Mary's husband. [3] He was born in 1669 and died in 1702. [3]

vii. Hannah Barbour was born on 16 April 1654 in Medfield. She married Ebenezer Badcock.

viii. Zachariah Barbour was born on 29 September 1656 in Medfield. [1] He died on 11 August 1705 in Medfield. [1] He married Abiel Ellis on 30 August 1683 in Medfield. [1] She died on 14 April 1716 in Medfield. [1]

ix. Abigail Barbour was born on 20 October 1658 in Medfield. [1]
