CAPTAIN ROBERT BADCOCK (d. 1694)

JOANNA UNKNOWN (c. 1629–1700)


Captain Robert Badcock died on 12 November 1694 in Milton, (now in) Norfolk County, Massachusetts. [1][2] He married Joanna Unknown.

Joanna was born about 1629. She died on 4 December 1700, age 71, in Milton. [1]

Margaret Badcock was probably the sister of Robert Badcock.

Henry Leland called Robert his brother in his will on 27 March 1680 and named him his overseer. [3]

Robert Badcock was one of the first land owners in Milton. [4, p. 12] He had a track of 107 acres between the brook bearing his name and the Neponset river. [4, p. 14] In 1670 he purchased land west of his own from Teague Crehore; in 1671 he purchased land from Nathaniel Duncan. [4, p. 16]

On 22 February 1666, Robert was one of the inhabitants of Milton signing an agreement saying they were willing to move the meeting house. [4, p. 4] On 6 August 1669, the town minster, Mr. Emerson, said that he was leaving. Sergeant Badcock was one of the men chosen to get some help for the sabbath. [4, p. 4] On 19 November 1669 Sergeant Badcock was one of the men chosen to set a rate to pay for the purchase of land and a house for the ministry and to pay Mr. Emerson. [4, p. 5] On 10 December 1669 Sergeant Babcock was one of the men chosen to check on the payment of Mr. Emerson. [4, p. 8]On the last day of September 1670, Sergeant Badcock was one of the men chosen to arrange for a new meetinghouse to be built. [4, p. 8-9] On 10 March 1670/71 Robert Badcock was one of the men chosen to oversee the building of the meetinghouse. [4, p. 11]

Robert Badcock was chosen selectman on 8 December 1673. [4, p. 16] On 13 September 1676 Sergeant Robert Babcock was one of the men chosen to receive payment for Mr. Mighell. On 12 March 1676/77 Robert was selectman. [4, p. 23] On 10 December 1677 Robert Badcock was chosen selectman. [4, p. 25] On 13 February 1678/9 Robert Badcock was taxed. [4, p. 27] Sergeant Robert Badcock was chosen a rate setter on 15 December 1685. [4, p. 41] Robert Badcock was commissioner in Milton in 1687. [4, p. 48] On 8 June 1691 Robert Badcock was chosen selectman. [4, p. 87]

Robert Badcock of Milton made his will on 11 November 1694. He mentioned his wife Joanna, whom he made his executor; his son Nathaniel Badcock; his grandson Caleb Badcock; his son-in-law Henry Vose. Inventory was taken on his estate on 26 November 1694. It was presented by Joanna on 7 March 1694/5. [2]

i. Ensign Samuel Badcock was born in 1650 in Dorchester. [5] He died on 7 September 1690. [5] He married Hannah Emes on 1 July 1674. [5] She died on 12 November 1723. [5]

Samuel was ensign of the Milton military company in 1689. [5]

ii. Jonathan Badcock was born in 1652 in Dorchester [5] He died on 5 January 1732 in Coventry, Connecticut. [5] He married first Mary Curtis on 1 August 1676. [5] He married second Mary Hebard on 19 October 1719. [5]

iii. Abigail Badcock was born in 1654 in Dorchester [5] She was baptized on 27 April 1656 in Dorchester [6] She died on 15 December 1693. [6] She married John Barbour of Medfield on 17 December 1674. [5]

iv. Nathaniel Badcock was born on 14 March 1657 or 1658 in Dorchester. [5][7] He died on 7 January 1719. [5] He married Hannah ___. [5]

v. Caleb Badcock was born on 14 August 1660 in Dorchester. [5][7]

vi. Ebenezer Badcock was born on 2 October 1662 in Milton. He died on 15 December 1717 in Sherborn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He married Hannah Barbour.

vii. Hopestill Badcock in 1663 in Milton. [5]

viii. Hannah Badcock was born on 8 February 1664/[5?] in Milton. [5][1] She died on 9 November 1711 in Sherborn. [8] She is probably the Hannah who died on 20 October 1732 in Milton. [1] She married Joseph Morse on 11 April 1683 in Medfield. [8]

ix. Elizabeth Badcock was born on 24 December 1666 in Milton. [5][1] She died on 18 October 1732. [5] She married Henry Vose of Milton. [5] He died on 26 March 1752. [5]

x. Thankful Badcock was born on 18 February 1668/[9?] in Milton. [5][1] She married George Lyon of Milton on 14 February 1688 in Milton. [1]
