John Trumble was buried on 18 July1657 in Rowley. [1][2] He married first Ellen Chandler on 7 July 1635 in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England. [3] John married second Ann Unknown as her second husband in 6m: 1650 in Rowley. [4]

Ellen died in 1648/9. [1]

Ann Unknown was born about 1616. [3] Ann had married first Michael Hopkinson (or Hobkinson). [3] She married third Richard Swan as his second wife on 1 March 1658[/9?]. [2][3][4] He married first Ann Unknown by 1626 in England. [3] Ann, the wife of Richard Swan, was buried on 4 April 1658. [2]

There is a story that John and Ellen were from Newcastle-on-Tyne, county Northumberland. [5] On 27 August 1653 widow Susan Blackiston of Newcastle-on-Tyne gave a letter of attorney to her friend widow Joanna Sill of New England, authorizing her to collect debts from four people from Newcastle-on-Tyne who had gone to New England: Ann Errington, Andrew Stevenson, John Trumble and Thomas Cheshole. John was described as a cooper and he owed five dollars by a note of 20 March 1637. [6] Perhaps he used this money to finance his voyage.

John acquired land in Cambridge by 1639 and he was admitted a freeman on 3 May 1640. [6]

Michael Hobkinson was admitted to the First Church of Boston on 11 November 1638 as a servant to Jacob Elliot. [7] William Stickney and Richard Swan were admitted the same day and all three were dismissed to the church in Rowley on 24 November 1639. [8]

John was a teacher, town clerk and early settler. [1]

John was on trial juries on 30: 1: 1647, 25 March 1656, and 31 March 1657 at the court in Ipswich. He was appointed sealer of the weights and measures for Rowley on 1651. He was on a grand jury at the 27: 7 1653 court in Ipswich. He was appointed clerk of the writs for Rowley on 30 September 1656. He was sworn clerk of the market for Rowley in March 1657. [2]

John Trumble, John Picard and William Jackson witnessed the 19 (9) 1655 will of Hugh Smith. [9]

Ann Trumble was appointed administratrix of her husband John Trumble's estate on 29: 7: 1657. It was to be divided between eleven children of three marriages: four children of Mighill Hobkinson—Jonathan, Jeremiah, John and Caleb Hobkinson; five children of John's before he married Ann—John, Hannah, Judah, Ruth and Joseph; two children of John and Ann—Abigail and Mary Trumble. [10]

The general court moderated the fine of John Trumble for not proving the will of his wife's former husband, Mighill Hobkinson, on 18 July 1657. [2]

Ann made her will on 4 July 1678; it was proved on 24 September 1678. She mentions her daughters Abigail and Mary Kilbourne and her sons Caleb Hopkinson, John Hopkinson, Jonathan Hopkinson and John Trumble. [b]

Children of John Trumble and Ellen Chandler:

i. Beriah Trumble was born in 1637 in Newcastle-on-Tyne. [5] He died in infancy. [5]

i. Lieutenant John Trumble was born in 1639 in Newcastle-on-Tyne. [3][5] He died in 1691. [3] He married Deborah Jackson on 14 May 1669. [3]

John was on a 3 May 1665 list of freemen in Rowley. [12]

Inventory of the estate of Lieutenant John Trumble of Rowley was taken on 20 March 1690/1. It amounted to about 297 pounds. Witnesses testified and administration was granted to his widow Deborah on 22 April 1691. [8]

ii. Hannah Trumble was born on 14: 12m: 1640 in Rowley. [1][11]

iii. Judah Trumble was born on 3: 4m: 1643 in Rowley. [1][11] He died on 1 April 1692 in Suffield, Connecticut. [13] He married Mary, the daughter of Sergeant William and Hannah Pritchard, on 19 September 1672 in Springfield. [13] She died died on 6 June 1722. [13] She married second Victory Sikes on 22 December 1692 in Suffield. [13] He died there on 25 April 1718. [13]

Judah was an original proprietor of Brookfield in 1665. [13]

Judah and his sister Ruth chose John Todd to be their guardian on 10 May 1660. [7]

iv. Ruth Trumble was born on 23 : 2m: 1645 in Rowley. She married Samuel Perley.

v. Joseph Trumble was born on 19: 3m: 1647 in Rowley. [11] He died on 15 August 1684 in Suffield, Connecticut. [5] He married Hannah Smith on 6 May 1669 in Rowley. [4] Hannah was the daughter of Hugh Smith of Rowley. [5]

On 29 March 1664 Joseph chose his brother John a his guardian. [14]

Children of John and Ann Trumble:

vi. Abigail Trumble was born on 10: 10: 1651 in Rowley. [1][11] She married Deacon Joseph Bailey of Bradford. [b]

vii. Mary Trumble was born on 17 June 1654 in Rowley. She died on 9 February 1715 in Rowley. She married Joseph Kilburne.

Children of Michael Hobkinson and Ann Unknown:

i. Jonathan Hobkinson was born on 12 Jan 1641/2. [b] He died eight days later. [8]

ii. Jonathan Hobkinson was born on 9 Apr 1643. [8]

iii. Jeremiah Hobkinson was born on 26 Mar 1645. [8]

iv. John Hobkinson was born on 1 Jan 1647. [8]

v. Caleb Hobkinson was born on 19 Feb 1648/9. [8]
