GEORGE REED, son of John Reed and Bethiah Frye

SARAH WHITMARSH (b.1701), daughter of Samuel Whitmarsh and Hannah Pratt


George Reed, the son of John and Bethiah Reed, married Sarah Whitmarsh, the daughter of Samuel and Hannah Whitmarsh. [1][2]

Sarah, the daughter of Samuel and Hannah Whitmarsh, was born on 6 March 1701. [1][3][4]

Sarah's father called her Sarah Reed in his will of 8 July 1718. [5]

Children of George Reed and Sarah Whitmarsh:

i. George Reed was born on 31 August 1718 in Dighton. [2] He died on 6 May 1727. [2]

ii. Avis Reed was born on 5 September 1720 in Dighton. [2][6] She died there on 7 July 1755. [6] She married John Palmer on 18 January 1736/7 in Dighton. [2, 27 January][6] John, the son of John and Mary (Hilliard) Palmer and grandson of John and Elizabeth (Richmond) Palmer, was born on 30 October 1712 in Little Compton. [6]

iii. Hannah Reed was born on 21 May 1722. [2] She married Reuben Clemens in 1743. [2]

iv. John Reed was born on 30 March 1724. [2] He married Miriam Talbot on 11 May 1749. [2] She died on 11 December 1749. [2]

v. Samuel Reed was born on 29 November 1725. [2] He married Rachel Williams in 1748. [2]

Samuel and Loved Reed were shoemakers in Upper Dighton. [7, 22]

vi. Ruth Reed was born on 3 November 1727 in Dighton. [2][8] She married first Joshua Williams. [2] She married second James Macomber. [2] She married third Ebenezer Myrick. [2]

vii. Rebecca Reed was born on 16 July 1729 in Dighton. She married first John Coleman. She married second Sylvester French.

viii. Sarah Reed was born on 6 December 1734 in Dighton. [8] She apparently died young.

ix. Sarah Reed was born on 22 January 1739. [2] She married John Gilmore. [2][8]

x. Loved Reed was born on 26 February 1741. [2] Loved of Dighton married Charity Phillips of Berkley after 15 August 1763 in Berkley. [9, 31] Perhaps he is the Loved who married [second] Mary French of Berkley after 16 September 1786 (intention) in Berkley. [9, 128]

Loved was a constable in Dighton in 1782. [7, 128]

Mary Reed, widow, posted bond on 7 April 1815. On 11 April 1815 inventory was taken on the estate of Loved Reed, yeoman of Dighton. On 12 May 1815 Mary Reed, administratrix, made oath to it. [10]

xi. Mary Reed was born on 3 February 1743/4 and died on 18 May 1745. [2][8]

xii. Jonathan Reed was born on 13 October 1745. [2][8]
