SAMUEL WHITMARSH (1665–1718), son of Nicholas Whitmarsh and Hannah Reed

HANNAH PRATT (b. 1670), daughter of Matthew Pratt and Sarah Hunt


Samuel, the son of Nicholas Whitmarsh and Hannah Reed, was born on 27 October 1665 in Weymouth. [1][2][3] He died between 8 July and 11 October 1718. He married Hannah Pratt, the daughter of Matthew and Sarah (Hunt) Pratt. [1][2]

Hannah, the daughter of Matthew Whitmarsh and Sarah Pratt, was born on 4 November 1670 in Weymouth. [1][2]

Hannah is called Hannah Whitmarsh in her father's will of 30 July 1711. [1]

Samuel moved to Dighton about 1710. [1][3]

Samuel Whitmarsh, yeoman of Dighton, being "Very sick," made his will on 8 July 1718. His witnesses testified to it on 14 October 1718. He named his wife Hannah; his seriously impaired son Samuel; his sons David, Jonathan and Daniel; his daughters Hannah Pool, Susanna Crane, Mary Whitmarsh, Sarah Reed, Ann Whitmarsh, Deborah Whitmarsh, and Jean Whitmarsh. His inventory was taken on 11 October 1718; it amounted to £1,981-09-06. [4]

Children of Samuel and Hannah Whitmarsh: The History of Weymouth only lists the first ten. [1]

i. Hannah Reed was born on 27 December 1691. [1][3] She married Benjamin Pool on 9 August 1713. [3]

ii. John Reed (twin) was born on 23 February 1693 and died on 26 May 1699. [1][3]

iii. Mary Reed (twin) was born on 23 February 1693 and died a little before 26 May 1699. [1][3]

iv. Susannah Reed was born on 11 February 1694. [1][3] She married Gershom Crane on 27 February 1716. [3]

v. David Reed was born on 9 October 1695. [1][3] He apparently died young,

vi. David Reed was born on 3 October 1696. [1][3] He and his wife died on 1 January 1768. [3] He married Susanna Jones on 23 November 1736. [3]

David and Susanna lived in Dighton.[1][3]

vii. Mary Reed was born on 20 February 1698. [1][3] She married first William Paul. [1][3] She married second William Mitchell. [3]

viii. Sarah Reed was born on 6 March 1701. She married George Reed.

ix. Ann Reed was born on 23 December 1702/3 in Weymouth. [1][2][3] She died on 7 August 1750 in Berkley. [2] She married Seth Briggs on 22 October 1726. [1][2][3] Seth was born about 1708/1710 in Dighton. [2] He died after 1782 in Putney, Vermont. [2] He married second Esther Littlefield on 2 May 1751 in Bridgewater. [2] Ester, the daughter of Edmund and Bethiah (Waldo) Littlefield, was born on 6 November 1714 in Bridgewater. [2] She died in Putney. [2] She married first Samuel Soper on 23 June 1731. [2] Samuel, the son of Samuel and Mary (Lyon) Soper, was born on 1 November 1709 in Boston. [2]

x. Jonathan Reed was born on 23 December 1704. [1][3] He died on 20 March 1755/6. [3] He married Rebecca Talbot on 14 February 1727. [3]

Jonathan and Rebecca lived in Dighton. [3]

xi. Samuel Reed [3] was living, but seriously impaired on 8 July 1718.

xii. Deborah Reed married Samuel Talbot, Jr. on 20 July 1727. [3]

xiii. Jane (Jean) Reed married Abraham Shaw on 10 October 1728. [3]

xiv. Daniel Reed married Susanna Winslow on 24 April 1737. [3] He married Susanna, the daughter of Joseph Winslow on 24 April 1737. [3]

Daniel and Susanna lived in Dighton. [3]
