JOHN REED (c. 1649–1721), son of William Reed and Bethiah Frye
BETHIAH FRYE (c. 1653–1730), daughter of George Frye.
John Reed, the son of William Reed and Bethiah Frye, was born about 1649 in Weymouth, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. [1][2] He died on 13 January 1721, age 72, in Dighton, Bristol County, Massachusetts. [2][3] He married Bethiah Frye. [2]
Bethiah, the daughter of George Frye of Weymouth, was born about 1653. [3] She died on 20 October 1730, age 77, probably in Dighton. [3]
Bethiah's father called her Bethiah Reed in his will of 6 July 1676. [4]
John settled in the part of Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts that became Dighton. [2] He was a soldier in King Philip's War in 1676. [1][2] He served in Captain Isaac Johnson's company and was probably at the Fort Fight. [2]
John was a house carpenter and an extensive land dealer. [4]
There was dissension after lots were surveyed in Dighton. On 13 June 1700 a meeting was held in Dighton at the house of John Reed to do what is "necessary in order to the quieting our Possessions in outright and title in the Purchase of Lands." [5]
Children of John Reed and Bethiah Unknown:
i. John Reed was born on 5 June 1674 in Weymouth. [2] He died in 1739 in Barrington, Bristol County, Rhode Island. [2] He married Bethiah Cobb on 15 June 1697 in Taunton. [2] Bethiah, the daughter Augustine Cobb, was born on 5 April 1678 in Taunton. [2]
John moved to Swansea, Bristol County, Massachusetts and lived in the part that became Barrington. [2]
ii. George Reed married first Sarah Whitmarsh.
