JONATHAN MOREY (c. 1661–1732/3), son of Jonathan Morey and Mary Bartlett

HANNAH BOURNE (1667–aft. 1732), daughter of Job Bourne and Ruhama Hallett


Jonathan Morey was born about 1661 in Plymouth. He died between 1 September 1732 and 26 April 1733. Jonathan, the son of Jonathan Morey and Mary Bartlett, married Hannah Bourne on 24 January 1689 in Plymouth. [1]

Hannah Bourne, the daughter of Job Bourne and Ruhamah Hallet, was born on 18 November 1667 in Sandwich. [1][2] She died after 1 September 1732.

Jonathan Morey of Plymouth and "Hannah [his] wife, daughter of Mr. Job Bourne, late of Sandwich" signed a receipt for 50 pounds received from his "mother-in-law Ruhamah Hersey and brethren Timothy Bourne, Eleazer Bourne and Hezekiah Bourne" in final settlement on 13 September 1714. [1]

Jonathan wrote his will on 1 September 1732 and it was proved on 26 April 1733. He mentions his wife Hannah, sons Benjamin and Jonathan and daughters Maria Swift, Thankful Swift and Reliance Morey. [1]

Children of Jonathan Morey and Hannah Bourne: Births recorded in Plymouth as the children of Jonathan Morey, Jr. and his Hannah. [3]

i. Benjamin Morey was born on 10 November 1690. He died before 3 April 1744. [4] He married Thankful, the daughter of William Swift, on 3 November 1715. [1][2]

On 3 April 1744 Josiah Swift administered the estate of Benjamin Morey of Plymouth. [4]

ii. Maria Morey was born on 22 September 1692. She married Seth Swift after 17 March 1721 (intention) in Plymouth. [4] Seth, the son of Samuel and Mary Swift, was born on 17 March 1692 in Sandwich and was living on 26 January 1753. [4]

On 26 January 1753 Seth Swift, yeoman of Plymouth, deeded all his housing and land in Sandwich to his son-in-law Zacheus Mendall of Rochester. [4]

iii. Mary Morey was born on 18 September 1694. Mary, the daughter of Jonathan, Jr. and Hannah, died on 23 November 1715 in Plymouth. [3]

iv. Thankful Morey, was born "the last week in March" 1695/6 in Plymouth. She married Thomas Swift.

v. Jonathan Morey was born in August 1699. He married Elizabeth Swift on 13 October 1728. [1] Elizabeth is the daughter of Samuel Swift. [1] She is the granddaughter of William Swift.

vi. Reliance Morey was born on 6 June 1702 in Plymouth. She died after 1775. She married Zacheus Bumpas on 19 October 1738 in Rochester. [4] Zacheus, the son of James and Mary (Savory) Bumpas, was born on 5 May 1710 and died before 24 November 17151. [4]

Israel Fearing's account book, dated 24 November 1751, mentions widow Reliance Bump. [4] On 24 September 1754 Reliance Bump asked the selectman for help and for 20 years she was cared for by the town. [4]

vii. Cornelius Morey was born on 2 May 1706.

viii. Joseph Morey was born on 19 January 1710 at "7 clock afternone." He died after 1754. [4] He married Mary Swift after 25 April 1733 (intention) in Sandwich. [4] Mary was perhaps the daughter of Samuel and Abigail Swift who was born on 28 April 1715 in Sandwich. [4]
