WILLIAM COALE SMITH (1693–1750), son of Nathan Smith and Elizabeth Coale

William Smith was born in 1693 and died in 1750. [Ref][Ref] He married first Jane Edmonston. He married second Lucy Unknown [Ref] before 4 Mar 1739. [Ref] She died in 1777.

William gave his age as 55 in an 18 Nov 1748 deposition. [Ref]

Jane was probably dead by 13 March 1734 when she was not mentioned in her father's will.

Archibald Edmonston of Prince George's County conveyed a tract of land called Edmonston's Pastures to his son-in-law William Smith. [Ref]

William was of Prince George's County. [Ref, p. 3] William's father left him half of a tract in Prince George's County called Moore's Plains. [Ref]

William was a Justice of the Peace of Prince George's County and a member of the Quorum from 1743 to 1747.[Ref]

William signed his will on 4 March 1739/40; it was proved in November 1750. He mentions his wife Lucy and their unborn child; sons Nathan, Archibald, James, Philip, Benoni, Anthony; daughters Jane, the wife of Thomas Cleland, Elizabeth, the wife of Benjamin White, Alice and Anna; son-in-law Joseph Belt, the son of Benjamin Belt. William's second wife Lucy signed her will on 10 January 1777; it was proved on 20 September 1777. She mentions her sons Anthony, Joseph and William Smith; her daughters Alice Jones, Anna Burgess, Lucy Norris and Susanna Smith [a daughter-in-law?]; her graddaughter Amelia Burgess, Ann Cleland. i. Nathan Smith was born on 9 March 1714/5 and died in 1762. [Ref] He married Margaret Unknown. [Ref]

ii. Archibald Smith died in March 1765. [[Ref] He married Mary Pottinger. [Ref] He left two daughters. [Ref]

Archibald inherited part of Moore's Plains and 200 acres in Beale Town. [Ref]

iii. James Haddock Smith died in 1806. [Ref] He married Ann Burgess. [Ref] They had a large family. [Ref]

iv. Philip Smith left no children. [Ref]

v. Benoni Smith left no children. [Ref]

vi. Esther Smith was born in 1722 and died on 12 July 1796. [Ref][Ref] She married Col. Joseph Belt of Montgomery County. [Ref][Ref] He was born in 1716 and died on 16 June 1793. [Ref][Ref]

vii. Elizabeth Smith married Benjamin White.

viii. Jane Smith married Thomas Cleland. [Ref]

Elizabeth Smith mentioned her niece Ann Cleland in her will. [Ref]

x. Joseph Smith died in 1801. [Ref] He married Lucy Unknown. [Ref]
