DANIEL THURSTON (1661–1737), son of Daniel Thurston and Anne Pell
MARY DRESSER (1667–1735), daughter of John Dresser and Martha Thorley
Daniel, the son of Daniel Thurston, was born on 18 December 1661 in Newbury. [1] He died on 16 February 1737 in Newbury. [1] He married Mary, the daughter of John and Martha (Thorley) Dresser. [2]
Richard Thurston wrote, "Feb. 18, 1738, my honored father, Daniel Thurston, d. in his 78th year." [3]
Mary Dresser was born on 14 July or 24 December 1667 in Rowley. [2, 24 December][4] She died on 7 December 1735.
Her son Richard wrote, "Dec. 7, 1735, my honored mother Thurston d. in her 70th year. My mother's death was very sudden, for, standing up, she dropped down and was not perceived to breath after." [3]
Daniel Thurston, husbandman of Newbury, made his will on 6 July 1736; it was proved on 27 February 1737. He left bequests to his sons Benjamin, Jonathan, Richard, and John Thurston and his daughters Mary Chute, Hannah Frazer, Martha Jewett, and Sarah Thurston. He named his son John his executor. He referred to land he bought from his brother Nathaniel Dresser. Gershom and Mary Frazer and James and Mary Chute signed receipts for payments made to them by their brother John Thurston on 31 March 1738. [5]
Children of Daniel Thurston and Mary Dresser:
i. Daniel Thurston was born on 26 June 1690 in Newbury. [1] He was baptized on 3 August 1690 in Rowley. [4] Daniel Thurston, Jr. died on 10 March 1720 in Rowley. [4] He married Lydia Leaver of Rowley on 14 November 1715. [1][2] Lydia, the daughter of Thomas and Damaris (Bailey) Leaver, was born on 5 December 1684 and died on 7 September 1754. [2] She married second Roger Rogers in 1722. [2] She married third Cornet Stephen Jewett. Stephen, the son of Ezekiel and Faith (Parrott) Jewett, was born on 23 February 1682/3 in Rowley and died there on 14 January 1717. [2]
Richard Thurston wrote, "March 10, 1720, my brother, Daniel Thurston, d. in the 30th year of his age."
Inventory was taken on the estate of Daniel Thurston on 17 February 1720/1; it was untotalled but included 229 pounds worth of real estate. Lydia Thurstan, the widow of Daniel of Rowley, posted bond on 30 October 1721. [5]
ii. Unnamed son Thurston (twin) was born on 7 May 1691 in Newbury. [1] He died there on 21 May 1691. [1]
iii. Unnamed daughter Thurston (twin) was born on 7 May 1691. She died there on 21 May 1691. [1]
iv. John Thurston was born on 12 June 1692 in Newbury. [1] John, the son of Daniel and Mary, died on 27 May 1751, age 58 years and 11 months, in Newbury. [1] He married Dorthy Woodman on 17 May 1732. [2] Dorothy, the daughter of Joshua and Mehitable (Wicom) Woodman of Newbury, was born in 1705 and died on 27 October 1773. [2]
May 25th, 1752, my brother John Thurston, d. in his 69th year. [3]
v. Mary Thurston was born on 7 January 1693/4 in Newbury. [1] She died on 12 August 1760 in Rowley. [6] She married James Chute of Rowley on 26 January 1715/6 in Rowley. [4][6]
"Richard Thurston wrote, "Augt. 12, 1760, my sister, Mary Chute, d. in her 67th year." [3]
vi. Benjamin Thurston was born on 4 May 1695 in Newbury. [1] He married Mary Gage of Bradford on 24 June 1718 in Newbury. [1] She died on 5 March 1778. [2]
Richard Thurston wrote, "Sept. 6th, 1746, my brother, Benjamin Thurston, d. in his 52d. year." [3]
vii. Lydia Thurston died on 4 September 1727 in Newbury. [1]
Richard Thurston wrote "Sept. 4, 1727, my sister, Lydia Thurston, d. in her 30th year." [3]
viii. Hannah Thurston was born on 2 or 20 January 1697/8 in Newbury. [1] She married Gershom Frazer on 9 January 1718/9 in Newbury. [1] Gershom, the son of Colin and Anna (Stuart) Frazer of Rowley, was born on 8 August 1697.
Richard Thurston wrote, "Sept. 18, 1770, my sister Hannah Frazer, d. in her 73d year." [3]
ix. Martha Thurston was born on 27 November 1699 in Newbury. [1] She died on 7 September 1780 in Boxford. [7] . She married Ezekiel Jewett of Boxford on 9 January 1718/9 [the same day her sister Hannah married] in Newbury. [1] Ezekiel, the son of Thomas Jewett, was born on 12 January 1692/3 in Rowley. [7] He died in the autumn of 1775. [7]
Ezekiel made his will on 31 March 1775; it was proved on 7 November 1775. Among others, he mentioned his wife Martha. [3]
x. Jonathan Thurston was born on 3 or 16 March 1700/1 in Newbury. He married Lydia Spofford.
xi. Stephen Thurston was born on 22 August 1704. He died there on 18 September 1727. [1]
Richard Thurston wrote, "Sept. 18, 1727, my brother, Stephen Thurston, d. in his 24th year." [3]
xii. Sarah Thurston was born on 30 December 1706 in Newbury. [1]
xiii. Richard Thurston was born on 16 October 1710 in Newbury. [1] He died on 12 July 1782 in Georgetown, Massachusetts. [2] He married Mehitable Jewett on 5 May 1731. [2] Mehitable, the daughter of Jonathan and Mary (Wicom) Jewett, was born on 19 July 1710 in Rowley and died on 18 May 1789 in Georgetown. [2]
