Matthew Pettingill was probably born about 1648 in Wenham. [1] He died on 28 June 1714. [2] He married Sarah Noyes on 13 April 1674 in Newbury. [3]

Sarah was the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Cutting) Noyes. [1] She was born on 22 August 1653 in Newbury. [3]

Matthew was a feltmaker. [1]

Inventory of the estate of Matthew Pettingill, deceased was taken on 26 July 1714. His real estate amounted to £379-10-00 and his personal estate amounted to £90-13-06. Sarah Pettingill, his relict, along with [her brothers] Cutting Noyes and James Noyes, posted bond on 2 August 1714. On 17 February 1 George [1714/5], Nathaniel Pettingill, Matthew Pettingill, Cutting Pettingill, Nicholas Pettingill, John Pettingill, Joanna Muzzey, Sarah Pettingill, Mary Pettingill, Abigail Pettingill, and Joseph Muzzey—the sons, son-in-law, and daughters of Mr. Matthew Pettingill, who died intestate, and Sarah his relict, reached an agreement on the division of his estate.

Children of Matthew Pettingill and Sarah Noyes:

i. Unknown Son Pettingill was born on 10 June 1674 in Newbury. [3] He probably died young.

ii. Nathaniel Pettingill was born on 21 January 1675 in Newbury. [3] He was baptized on 6 February 1675/6. [1] He married Margaret Richardson on 22 December 1702/3. [1]

Nathaniel was a feltmaker. [1]

iii. Matthew Pettingill was born on 18 September 1678 in Newbury. He was baptized on 29 November 1678. He died on 24 November 1756 in Salisbury. He married Joanna French.

iv. Joanna Pettingill was born on 27 January 1680 in Newbury. [3] She was baptized on 30 January 1680/1. [1] She died on 15 April 1722 in Salisbury. [VRS] She married Joseph Muzzey after 2 November 1700 (intention) in Newbury. [3] Joseph was the son of Joseph Muzzey and his wife Esther Jackman. [1] He may be the Joseph who married Sarah Morse on 31 March 1724 in Salisbury [VRS]

Cutting was a hatter and a feltmaker. [1] He made his will on 13 September 1760. [1]

vi. Nicholas Pettingill was born on 15 November 1685 in Newbury. [3] He married Tabitha March on 25 December 1718 in Newbury. [3] Tabitha, the daughter of Lieutenant James and Mary (Walker) March, was born on 20 June 1696 and died on 27 February 1776. [1] She married second George Butler after 1 July 1732 (intention). [1]

Nicholas was a tailor. [1]

vii. Sarah Pettingill was born on 19 April 1688. [1]

viii. Mary Pettingill was born say 1691 in Newbury. She married Daniel Lunt on 21 January 1619/20. [1]

ix. John Pettingill was born on 16 February 1693/4 in Newbury. [3] He died in January 1766. [1] He married Mary, the daughter of Joseph Knight, on 16 February 1720/1. [1]

x. Abraham Pettingill was born on 23 September 1696 in Newbury. [3] He was baptized on 4 October 1696. [1] He died in 1715. [1]

xi. Abigail Pettingill was born on 17 October 1699 in Newbury. [3] She married Nicholas Jackman on 12 July 1724 in Newbury. [3]
