TIMOTHY JOHNSON (c. 1644–1688)
REBECCA ASLEBEE (1652–1705/28), daughter of John Aslebee and Rebecca Ayer
John Johnson, Sr., born about 1609 in England, came to New England with his wife Susanna and settled in Ipswich. He was in Andover by 1659. Sergeant Thomas of Andover was a son and it has been suggested that Stephen, Timothy, and William—in order—might be younger sons. However, that Timothy was underage and living with someone else does not lend support to this. [1]
Timothy Johnson was born about 1644. [1] He died on 15 March 1687/8 in Andover. [1] He married Rebecca Aslebee on 15 December 1674. [1]
Rebecca, the daughter of John and Rebecca (Ayer) Aslebee, was born on 6 May 1652 in Andover. [1] She died between 26 March 1705 and 17 June 1728. [1]
On 26 March 1661 Timothy deposed that he was 17 and living with Joseph Quelters of Ipswich. [1]
Timothy was a constable in Andover in 1676. [1]
On 16 June 1688 Rebecca Johnson, Timothy's widow, was granted administration of the estate of Timothy Johnson, cordwainer of Andover. John Aslebee of Andover signed her bond. Inventory was taken on 6 May 1702 and amounted to only £45-05-06, with debts of £19-06-03. The 13 acres of real estate was to go to the eldest son John and he was to pay £2-17-11 to each of his brothers and sisters: Rebecca, Timothy, Jr., Mary, Samuel, Peter, and Mercy. [1]
After her husband's death, Rebecca was employed at 40 shillings a year as the sexton of the Andover church between 1690 and 1698. [1]
