CAPTAIN TIMOTHY JACKMAN (1729–1795), son of Timothy Jackman and Hannah Chute

MARY THURSTON (1732–1767), daughter of Jonathan Thurston and Lydia Spofford

Captain Timothy Jackman, the son of Timothy and Hannah (Chute) Jackman, was on 13 July 1729 in Newbury. [1, 1: 244] He died on 8 July 1795, age 66, in Newbury. [1, 2: 625] Timothy Jackman of Rowley married first Mary Thurston of Rowley on 2 April 1751 in Newbury. [1, 2: 255][2, 321] He married second Hannah Jackman on 10 February 1768 in Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts. [3, 248] Hannah, the wife of Captain Timothy Jackman, died on 7 October 1778 of a "languishing disorder," age 55, in Byfield Parish. [1, 2: 623][4] He married third Anne Adams on 22 February 1779 in Rowley. [2, 322] Anne, the daughter of William (Abraham, Abraham, Robert) and Elizabeth (Noyes) Adams, was born on 3 November 1733. [5]

Mary Thurston, the daughter of Jonathan and Lydia Thurston, was born on 27 February 1731/2 in Rowley. 2, 219] Mary the daughter of Jonathan Thurston, was baptized on 5 March 1731/2 in Newbury. [1] Mary ("Molly"), the wife of Timothy Jackman, Jr., died of a "consumptive disorder" on 27 October 1767, at about 33, in Byfield Parish. [1, 2: 624][4][6]

Mary's identification is circumstantial. There were two Mary Thurstons of the right age and in the right place to have been this Mary. A Mary Thurston, the daughter of Richard and Mehitable, was born in Rowley on 26 October 1734. But, she is referred to as Mary Searl in the will of her father (Essex case 27642).

Captain Timothy Jackman and his first wife Molly are buried together in the Byfield Parish Cemetery in Byflield. [6]

Newburyport became a distinct town from Newbury in 1764.

Timothy and his family lived in the Byfield parish. Byfield is now a village in Newbury but parts of Byfield were orginally in Rowley.

Timothy Jackman of Rowley, gentleman, made his will on 1 December 1787 "in the twelfth year of American independence." He left his estate to his wife Anna and his five daughters: Sarah the wife of Jeremiah Jewitt, Hannah, the wife of Eliphas Chapman, Ruth, the wife of Benjamin Jackman, Mary, the wife of John Barker, and Lydia, the wife of Benjamin Tenney. Probate was on 3 August 1795 and on that day Jeremiah Jewitt, yeoman, Parker Cleveland, Esq., and Joseph Pike, gentleman, all of Rowley, posted bond on the estate of Timothy Jackman, late of Newbury, gentleman, who was formerly of Rowley. [7]

Note: The Timothy Jackman, 3rd, of Byfield Rowley who married in 1768 in Newport was the son of Benjamin Jackman, baptized on 25 October 1747 in Byfield parish. [8]
