THOMAS GLEASON (bp. 1638–1705), son of Thomas Gleason and Susanna Page
SARAH UNKNOWN (d. 1703)
Thomas, the son of Thomas and Susanna Gleason, was baptized on 21 January 1637/8 in Cockfield, county Suffolk, England. [1] He died on 25 July 1705 in Framingham, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. [2] He married first Sarah Unknown by 1665 or 1666 in Sudbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. [3] He married second Mary Unknown. [2]
Sarah died on 8 July 1703 in Sherborn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. [4]
Thomas Gleason of Sherborn, being "sick and weak," made his will on 30 April 1705. He left bequests to his son Thomas Gleason; his unmarried daughters Patience and Mary Gleason; his son-in-law John Gibbs, who married his daughter Ann Gleason; his daughter Sarah Morse; his grandson John Gibbs on the condition that he faithfully serve his son John Gleason until he reached 21; sons Isaac and John Gleason, whom he made his executors. Jeremiah Morse contested the will, but offered nothing sufficient to hinder probate. On 10 September 1705, Isaac Learned, Mr. John Swift and John Death, Sr. testified. Inventory on Thomas's estate was taken by John Death, Sr. and [his brother-in-law] Thomas Pratt, Sr. It amounted to 249 pounds and included apparel, books, arms, ammunition, farm animals, land, tools for husbandry, household goods and a loom. It was exhibited on 10 September 1705. [5]
Thomas settled in Sudbury. [2] On 29 September 1673 he bought 40 acres in Framingham by exchange from Benjamin and Mary Rice. [2] On 5 October 1678 he was received as an inhabitant of Sherborn. [2]
Children of Thomas Gleason and Sarah Unknown:
i. Sarah Gleason was born on 6 February 1665 in Sudbury. [2] She married Jeremiah Morse as his second wife by 1685. [6] Jeremiah, the son of Joseph and Esther (Pierce) Morse and the grandson of John Pierce, was born say 1657. [6] He married first Abigail Woodward on 13 January 1681/2 in Watertown. [6] She died on 13 April 1683 in Watertown. [6]
ii. Ann Gleason was probably born about 1667 in Sherborn. She died before 31 May 1694. She married John Gibbs.
iii. Thomas Gleason was born about 1669 in Sherborn. [2] He died on 11 January 1732 in Oxford, Massachusetts. [2] He married Mary Millens (Mellon) on 6 December 1695 in Sherborn. [4] Mary, the daughter of Simon and Mary Mellen, was baptized on 5 December 1686 in Watertown. [2] She died on 13 March 1727 in Oxford. [2] He married second Mercy Hovey on 10 June 1720 in Oxford. [2] Mercy, the daughter Daniel and Mercy Hovey, was born in Ipswich and died in December 1767 in Oxford. [2] She married second John Waite on 19 December 1749. [2]
Thomas and his wife were founders and signers of the covenant of the church in Oxford on 18 January 1720/1. [2] Thomas was a constable in 1721 and a selectman from 1723 to 1726. [2]
iv. Isaac Gleason was born about 1674. [2] He died on 5 December 1737 in Framingham. [2] He married Deborah Leland on 11 December 1700 in Sherborn. [2] Deborah, the daughter of Ebenezer and Deborah Leland, was born on 10 August 1679 in Sherborn. [2]
v. Patience Gleason was born about 1677. [2] She was alive and unmarried on 30 April 1705.
vi. Mary Gleason was born on 19 June 1680 in Sherborn. [4] She married Jacob Pepper in 1714 in Roxbury. [2] Jacob was born in July 1661 in Roxbury and died on 10 April 1739 in Roxbury. [2]
vii. John Gleason was born about 1682/3. He died on 9 May 1740 in Framingham. [2] He married Abigail Larned in 1706/7 in Framingham. [2] Abigail, the daughter of Isaac and Sarah (Bigelow) Learned, was born on 11 March 1684 in Framingham. [2]
John wrote his will on 10 April 1740. [2]
