George Lewis

Clement Foreman, husbandman of Brenchley, died between 31 October 1599, when he made his will, and 16 January 1599/1600, when it was proved. [4] He married married Margery Baldock on 24 May 1596 in Brenchley. [4] Margery died between 6 May 1610, when she wrote her will, and 20 February 1611/2, when it was proved. [4]
George Lewis, the father of the migrant, was buried on 11 July 1631 in Brenchley, leaving no will. [4] He married Dennis Forman, the daughter of Clement and Margery Baldock Foreman, on 24 May 1596 in Brenchley. [4] Dennis was baptized on 15 August 1579 in Brenchley and was buried there on 10 January 1625/6. [4]

i. Margery Lewis was baptized on 4 December 1587. She was buried on 18 June 1619 in Brenchley. [4]

ii. George Lewis was baptized on 31 August 1600.

iii. James Lewis was baptized on 17 April 1603.

iv. John Lewis was baptized on 1 November 1606. He married first Sarah Mead on 1 March 1631/2 in Tenterden, county Kent. [1] Sarah, the daughter of James Mead, was baptized on 29 November 1612 in Tenterden. [1] She died on 12 July 1657 in Boston. [1] John married second the widow Alice Bishop on 22 November 1659. [1] Alice was the daughter of James Mattocks. [1]

John came to New England with his wife Sarah on the Hercules. [1] He first resided in Scituate and then in Boston. [1] He was a butcher and innkeeper. [1]

v. Elizabeth Lewis was baptized on 2 February 1613/4. There is no further record of her. [4]

George, the son of George and Dennis (Foreman) Lewis, was baptized on 31 August 1600 in Brenchley, county Kent. [1] He died between 3 June 1662 and 1 March 1663/4. He married Mary, the daughter of Thomas Doggett, on 1 November 1624 in Horsmonden, county Kent. [1][2]

Robert Doggett was born about 1535 in Kent. He was buried on 14 May 1604. He married Dennice Aparke on 20 July 1566. She was buried on 13 May 1594 in Horsmonden.
Thomas Doggett, the son of Robert and Dennice (Aparke) Doggett, was baptized on 23 January 1572/3 in Horsmonden and died between 21 May and 6 July 1621. He may have been the Thomas who married Isabel Maratine on 21 September 1595 in Goudhurst, co. Kent. His widow Isabel was buried on 14 October 1641 in Horsmondon.

i. Elizabeth Doggett was baptized on 10 July 1597. She was buried on 23 January 1642/3 in Horsmonden. She married William Willard on 3 December 1617 in Horsmonden. He was buried there on 8 April 1639.

ii. Thomas Doggett (probably) was born say 1599. He was buried on 26 February 1601/2 in Horsmonden.

iii. Mary Doggett was baptized on 21 September 1600.

iv. Thomas Doggett was baptized on 19 October 1621.

Mary, the daughter of Thomas and Dennice (Aparke) Doggett, was baptized on 21 September 1600 in Horsmonden. [2] She died after 3 July 1676, probably in Barnstable. [2]

George Lewis migrated to New England between 25 May 1634 and 20 February 1634/5. He settled in Scituate and moved to Barnstable by 1641.

George was a clothier. [1]

Goodman Lewis senior joined the Scituate church on 20 September 1635. [1] He was admitted a freeman on 3 January 1636/7. [1] He was in the Barnstable section of the 1643 list of men in Plymouth colony capable of bearing arms. [1] He served on the Plymouth petit jury on 7 June 1649 and 5 June 1655; he was on the grand jury on 3 June 1662; he was a surveyor of highways in Barnstable on 7 June 1648 and 4 June 1650; he was a constable on 5 June 1651. George's undated will was probated on 3 March 1663/4. [1] He left his entire estate to his wife and son Ephraim for their lives. After their deaths, it was to be divided equally between his sons George, Thomas, James, Edward, and John and his daughter Sarah Lewis, except George was to have five pounds more. His wife Mary was his executrix. On 1 March 1663/4 she testified to the inventory. [1]

i. Mary Lewis was baptized on 27 December 1625 in Brenchley. [1] She married John Bryant on 14 or 24 November 1643 in Scituate. [1][3] He married second Elizabeth Wetherell on 22 December 1657 in Scituate. [3] He married third Mary Hyland.

ii. George Lewis was baptized on 11 November 1627 in Brenchley. [1] He married Mary Lombard in December 1654 in Barnstable. [1] Mary was the daughter of Barnard Lombard. [4]

iii. Thomas Lewis was baptized on 5 January 1630/1 in Brenchley. [1] He married Mary Davis on 15 June 1653 in Barnstable. [5][6]

iv. James Lewis was baptized on 25 March 1632 in Brenchley. [1] He married Sarah Lane in October 1655 in Barnstable. [1] Sarah was the daugher of George Lane of Hingham. [4]

v. Edward Lewis was baptized on 25 May 1634 in Staplehurst, county Kent. [1] He married Hannah Cobb on 9 May 1661. [1]

vi. John Lewis was born on 2 March 1637/8 in Scituate. [1] He was baptized on 11 March 1637/8 in Scituate. [1] He was killed by Indians on 26 March 1676 in Pawtucket. [1] He was unmarried. [1]

vii. Ephraim Lewis was born on 23 July 1641 in Barnstable. [1] He was baptized on 25 July 1641 in Barnstable. [1]

His father's will suggests that Ephraim was impared in some way. [1]

viii. Sarah Lewis was born on 3 February 1643 in Barnstable. She married first Sergeant James Cobb. She married second Jonathan Sparrow.
