NICHOLAS ROCKET (d. 1681)

Nicholas Rocket (Rockwood) died on 26 January 1680/1 in Medfield, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. [1] He married first Joan ___. He married second Margaret Holbrook on 16 July 1656 in Medfield. [1][2] She was the daughter of John Holbrook. [2] She died on 23 April 1670 in Medfield. [1] He married third Silence Bowers [the widow of Elnathan Dunckley] on 25 May 1675 in Medfield. [1] She died on 9 November 1677 in Medfield. [1]
Joan, the wife of Nicholas, died on 15 December 1654 in Medfield. [1]
Savage says that Nicholas was in the part of Dedham that became Medfield in 1640 and he was a freeman in 1666. [2]
The inventory of Nicholas's estate was taken on 26 January 1680/1. The heirs appeared in court on 26 April 1681 and Josiah was appointed administrator. The heirs were Nicholas's sons Josiah, Joseph, Benjamin, John, and Nathaniel and His son-in-law John Partridge. [3]
The estate papers suggest that Josiah is the eldest son and that the birth order of the first four sons is Josiah, Samuel, Joseph, Benjamin. This suggests that they are all sons of Joan.
Children of Nicholas Rocket and Joan Unknown:
i. Josiah Rockwood married Mary Twitchell on 9 May 1677 in Medfield. [1] She died on 15 September 1699 in Medfield. [1]
ii. Samuel Rockwood was apparently his father's heir in 1681.
iii. Joseph Rockwood was apparently his father's heir in 1681.
ii. Benjamin Rockwood was born on 8 September 1651 in Medfield. He married Judith Ellis.
Children of Nicholas Rocket and Margaret Unknown:
iii. Elizabeth Rockwood was born on 3 April 1657 in Medfield. [1] She married John Partridge on 24 December 1678 in Medfield. [1]
iv. John Rockwood was born on 12 February 1662/3 in Medfield. [1] He married Bethiah Twitchell on 19 July 1688 in Medfield. [1] She died on 1 January 1706/7 in Medfield. [1] He is probably the John who married [second] Rebecca Turner on 14 May 1708 in Medfield. [1]
v. Nathaniel Rockwood was born on 23 February 1665/6 in Medfield. [1]
Children of Nicholas Rocket and Silence Bowers:
vi. Isaac Rockwood was born on 22 July 1677 in Mefield. [1] He died there on 11 October 1677. [1]
