I-K-3. NAOMI JANE BEESON (1861 – 1924), daughter of Mary Ann Frances Sibert3 (David2, John David1)

Naomi Jane Beeson was born on 2 October 1861 in Keener, Etowah County, Alabama. [1][2] She died on 22 February 1924. [1][2] She married Dr. Horace Puckett McWhorter on 24 June 1886 in Etowah County. [1, 26 June][3][4] Horace was the son of A. Milton and M. Jane (Davis) McWhorter. [5] He was born on 6 September 1859 in Gaylesville, Cherokee County, Alabama. [2][6][7, 8 September] He died of nephritis on 5, 6, or 14 August 1927 at the home of his daughter Mrs. A.L. Campbell in Fort Payne, DeKalb County, Alabama. [5, 6 August][2, 14 August][6, 5 August, Fort Wayne, Indiana][7, 6 August] Naomi and Horace are buried in the Collinsville Cemetery in Collinsville, DeKalb County, Alabama. [2] Horace was married twice. [7] He married first Fannie Newman on or shortly before 25 January 1882. [8]

According to the census, in 1880 Horace, aged 20, lived in Gaylesville with his parents Abbott M. and Mahala J. He was a medical student. [9]

Horace graduated from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville in 1881. [6] He began practicing in Collinsville that year. [7]

According to the census, in 1900 Horace, born in September 1859, and Naomi, born in October 1861, lived in Collinsville with Larmar, born in December 1888; Jerome, born in March 1891; Milton, born in September 1893; Luther, born in February 1896; and Naomi, born in June 1897. Horace was a physician; he and Naomi had been married for 13 years; Naomi had had six children, and five were living. In 1910 Horace, aged 50, and Naomi, aged 48, lived in Collinsville with their children Lamar, aged 21; Milton, aged 16; Luther, aged 14; Naomi, aged 11; Mary, aged nine; and Lizzie, aged five, all born in Alabama. Horace and Naomi had been married for 25 years; Naomi had had eight children, and seven were living; Horace was a physician and Lamar was a farmer. In 1920 Horace, aged 60, and Naomi, aged 58, lived in Collinsville with their daughter Elizabeth, aged 14, and their son Lamar and his wife Mabel. Horace was a physician. [9]

Children of Horace Puckett McWhorter and Fannie Newman:

i. Thomas Emmet McWhorter was born on 22 February 1885 and died on 16 September 1886. He is buried in the Old Collinsville Cemetery in Collinsville. [2]

Children of Horace Puckett McWhorter and Naomi Jane Beeson:

ii. Marcus McWhorter was born in 1887 and died in 1888. [1]

iii. Dr. Horace Lamar McWhorter was born on 24 December 1888 in Collinsville. [1][2][6] He died of pernicious anemia on 15 November 1920 in Fairfield, Jefferson County, Alabama. [2][6][10] He married Mabel Florence Morgan on 4 November 1914 in Etowah County. [2][11] He is buried in the Collinsville Cemetery. [2] She was born in 1889 in Georgia. [2][9] She and died in 1976. [2] She is interred in the Owensboro Memorial Gardens in Owensboro, Daviess County, Kentucky. [2]

Horace graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham in 1913. [6]

According to the census, in 1920 Lamar, aged 31, and Mabel, aged 30 and born in Georgia, lived with Lamar's parents in Collinsville. Lamar was a physician. [9]

Lamar practiced medicine in Collinsville and Fairfield. [6]

Lamar died intestate. Mabel was granted administration and posted a bond on his estate on 17 December 1920. [10]

iv. Jerome C. McWhorter was born on 8 March 1891 in Collinsville. [1][12][13] He died in August 1968. [12] He married Altie Belle Doyle about 1912. [14] She was born on 5 September 1889 in Alabama. [12] She died on 27 February 1990 in Manatee County, Florida. [12][15]

According to his World War I draft card, on 26 May 1917 Jerome lived in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was employed as an architectural draftsman and had a wife and two children. He was tall, with a medium build, dark blue eyes, and dark brown hair. [13]

According to the census, in 1920 Jerome, aged 29, and Altie, aged 30, lived in Chicago with their children Jerome, Jr., aged six, and Evangeline, aged four years and ten months, and Jerome's sister Mary. Jerome was a draftsman and "orchastra tender." In 1930 Jerome, aged 39, and Altie B., aged 39 and born in Alabama, lived in Chicago with their children Jerome C., Jr., aged 16, and Evangeline, aged 15, both born in Tennessee. Jerome was an architect and Altie was a saleslady. They married at age 21. [9]

In 1940 Altie, aged 50, lived with her son Jerome, aged 26, in Chicago. He was the manager of a theater. [9]

In 1950 Jerome was a patient at the Manteno Mental Institution in Manteno, Kankakee County, Illinois. [9] He was a resident of Manteno at the time of his death. [12]

Children:

v. Dr. Abbott Milton McWhorter was born on 2 September 1893 in Alabama. [1][2][13] He died on 7 October 1945 in Montgomery, Montgomery County, Alabama and is buried there in the Oakwood Cemetery. [2][5, 9 October][20] He married first Estelle White. [2] Estelle was the daughter of Will and Mary McClung White. [5] She was born on 13 September 1895. [2] She died 25 November 1970 in Collinsville and is buried in the Collinsville Cemetery. [2][5, 23 November] Abbott and Estelle presumably divorced. Milton married second Mary Archie Mosely on 1 July 1938 in Montgomery. [2][18][19] She was born on 25 June 1914 and died on 13 October 1975. [2] She is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery. [2]

Milton lived in Montgomery. [1][18] He was a dentist. [18] According to his World War I draft card, he was of medium height and build with blue eyes and brown hair. [13]

According to the census, in 1930 Milton A., aged 35, and Estelle W., aged 33, lived in Montgomery with their children Mary E., aged five, and William, aged two. Milton was a dentist. In 1940 Estelle W., aged 44, lived in Collinsville with her children Mary Elizabeth, aged 15 and William Horace, aged 12. Estelle was a hostess in a lunchroom. [9]

vi. William "Bill" Luther McWhorter was born on 29 February 1896 in Alabama. [1] He died on 21 February 1945 in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. [2][5] He married Mae Etolia Furr. [2] She was born on 20 October 1897 and died on 2 August 1978. [2] Bill and Mae are buried in the Glenwood Cemetery in Fort Payne. [2]

According to the census, in 1920 William, aged 25, and May, aged 20, lived in Collinsville with their children Louise, aged two and Margaret, aged eight months, and May's parents D.A. and Ella Furr. William was a farmer. In 1930 William, aged 34, and Mae E., aged 32, lived in Fort Payne with their five daughters Rebecca L., aged 12; Margaret E., aged ten; Mary F., aged nine; N. Elizabeth, aged four and a half; and Martha, aged two. William owned a gas station. In 1940 William, aged 44, and May, aged 42, lived in Fort Payne with Margaret, aged 21; Mary, aged 19; Elizabeth, aged 14; and Martha, aged 12. William was a truckman. [9]

According to his obituary, Bill McWhorter was a coal dealer. He was survived by his wife Mae Furr and his five daughters: Louise Griffen and Misses Margaret, Mary, Elizabeth and Margaret. [21]

vii. Jessie Naomi McWhorter was born on 8 June 1897 or 1898 in Alabama. [1, in 1898] She died on 25 February 2001. [2] She married William Jesse McMurry. [1][2] He was born on 2 August 1883 in Rogersville, Alabama. [2] He died on 23 March 1954 in Selma, Alabama. [2][26] Jessie and William are buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Greensboro, Hale County, Alabama. [2]

William and Jessie lived in Greensboro. William owned a dairy farm and Jessie was a teacher at the Greensboro High School. [26]

According to his obituary, William was survived by a son, Capt. W. Horace McMurry, a daughter Mrs. L.B. Whitlow, and a [possibly living] daughter. [26]

Children:

viii. Mary Margaret McWhorter was born on 23 October 1900 in Alabama. [1] She died on 19 January 1965 in Fort Payne. [1][5] She married Andrew Lewis Campbell. [1][2] Andrew was the son of A.L. and Delia (Lyons) Campbell. [28] He was born on 17 December 1891. [2] He died on 9 June 1954. [2, 8 June][28] Mary and Andrew are buried in the Glenwood Cemetery in Fort Payne. [2]

According to the census, in 1920 Mary lived in Chicago with her brother Jerome and his family. She was a student at the University of Chicago. In 1950 Andrew, aged 52, and Mary M., aged 48, lived in Fort Payne with their children William B. and Frank D. Andrew was a circuit clerk in the city government, Mary was a geography teacher at the elementary school, William was a salesman in a shoe store and Frank was a soda clerk in a drug store. [9]

ix. Della Elizabeth McWhorter was born on 2 February 1905 in Alabama and died on 3 March 2006. [2][12] She married Dr. David M. Isbell on 24 June 1926 in DeKalb County. [2][31][32] David was the son of John B. Isbell of Fort Payne. [31] He was born on 23 September 1901 in Alabama and died there on 17 February 1987. [2][12] Elizabeth and David are buried in the Glenwood Cemetery in Fort Payne. [2]

According to the census, in 1930 David, aged 28, and Elizabeth, aged 25, lived in Chattanooga with their son David, aged three months. David was a physician. In 1940 David, aged 38, and Elizabeth, aged 35, lived in Chattanooga with their children David, aged ten, and [possibly living], aged six. David and Elizabeth were born in Alabama; the children were born in Tennessee. David was a physician. In 1950, David, aged 48, and Elizabeth, aged 45, were living in Chattanooga with their [possibly living] daughters. David was a physician. [9]
