74. JASPER LUTHER BEESON (1867 – 1943), son of Mary Ann Frances Sibert3 (David2, John David1)
Jasper Luther Beeson was born on 30 or 31 August 1867 in Keener, Etowah County, Alabama. [1, 30 August] He died on 10 January 1943 in Milledgeville, Baldwin County, Georgia. [2] He married Leola Selman on 13 September 1894 in Powder Springs, Cobb County, Georgia. Leola, the daughter of James Wilson and Katherine (Riley) Selman, was born on 23 November 1865. [3] She died on 30 March 1962 in King's Daughters' Hospital in Staunton, Augusta County, Virginia. [3][4] Jasper and Leola are buried in the Memory Hill Cemetry in Milledgeville, Baldwin County, Georgia. [4]

Jasper attended the University of Alabama, receiving an A.B. in 1889 and an A.M. 1890. [1][2] He received a Ph.D. in chemistry Johns Hopkins in 1893. [1][2] He recieved an LL.D. from the Univerisity of Alabama. [2] He was an instructor of physics at the University of Alabama and a chemist of the Alabama Geological Survey from 1889 to 1890. He was a professor of chemistry at the Louisiana School of Sugar from 1893 to 1897. He was professor elect of chemistry at the Kansas Agricultural College in 1897. He was a professor of chemistry and physics at the Georgia Normal and Industrial College in 1897. He was chairman of the faculty of the American Chemical Society. [1]
Jasper joined the Georgia State College for Women in 1897 as a professor of chemistry. He became the acting president in 1923 and again in 1927. He was later the president. He became the president emeritus in 1923. [2]
Jasper was the family genealogist. [1] He was survived by his wife and daughter. [2]
Leola, age 93, died after she fell getting out of bed and broke her hip. [3]
Children of Jasper Luther Beeson and Leola Selman:
i. Catherine Selman Beeson was born on 16 January 1901 in Milledgeville. [1][4] She died on 11 November 2000 in Lynchburg, Virginia. [4][5] She married Samuel Brown Wright. [4] Samuel, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Campbell) Wright, was born on 16 December 1884 and died on 5 January 1956. [4] Samuel and Catherine are buried in the Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton City, Virginia. [4]
Catherine received an A.B. from Georgia State College for Women in 1922. She was a graduate student at Columbia in 1922/3. She received an A.M. from Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville in 1925. She was a professor of English at the Women's College of Due West, South Carolina in 1925. [1] She taught English at Mary Baldwin College. [5]
According to the census, in 1940 Samuel and Catherine lived in Staunton City with their children. Samuel owned a giftshop. [6]
