EDWARD WOOD (bp. 1598–1642)

RUTH LEE (d. 1642)


Lewis Wood was buried on 15 April 1626 in Nuneaton, co. Suffolk. He married Margaret Holmes. He was a brazier and pewterer. The inventory of his estate, amounting to only four pounds and one shilling, was taken on 18 February 1627/8. [1]

Edward, the son of Lewis and Margaret (Holmes) Wood, was baptized in Nuneaton, co. Warwick on 29 October 1598. [1] He died on 29 November 1642 in Charlestown, (now) Suffolk County, Massachusetts. [1] He married Ruth Lee. [1]

Ruth Lee died on 29 August 1642 in Charlestown. [1]

Edward may have been a resident of Charlestown as early as August 1639. [1] He was a baker. [1]

Edward was admitted to the church in Charlestown on 30 March 1640. [2]

Only Edward's inventory is extant in the Suffolk County probate records. [2]

Children of Edward and Ruth Wood

i. Elizabeth Wood [2] was baptized on 22 October 1620 in Nuneaton. [1] She died on 1 November 1688 in Charlestown. [1] She married Solomon Phipps before 15 May 1642. [2]

Elizabeth was admitted to the church at Charlestown as "Mother Phipps" on 15 May 1642. [1][2]

ii. Ann Wood was baptized on 6 Apr 1623 in Nuneaton and buried there on 15 March 1625/6. [1]

ii. Obadiah Wood [2] was baptized on 2 October 1625 in Nuneaton. [1] He died in November 1694 in Ipswich, Essex County. [1] He married first Margaret Spark(e) about 1646. [1] Margaret, the sister of John and Samuel Sparke of Ipswich, died on 5 July 1667 in Ipswich. [1] Obadiah married second Hazelelponi (Willix) Gee about 1674. [1] Hazelelponi, the daughter of Balthasar and Hannah Willix and widow of John Gee of Boston and Martha's Vineyard was born about 1636 and died on 27 November 1714 in Ipswich. [1]

Obadiah was a baker. [1]

iii. Josiah Wood [2] was born about 1629. [1] He died on 24 September 1691, age 62 in Charlestown. [1][2] He married Lydia Bacon on 28 October 1657 in Charlestown. [1] Lydia, the daughter of Michael and Mary Bacon of Charlestown, was born about 1638, probably in Ireland, and died on 25 November 1712 in Charlestown. [1]

Josiah was a soldier in King Philip's War.

iv. Thomas Wood was born about 1633. He was buried on 12 September 1687 in Rowley. He married Ann Unknown.

v. Ruth Wood ]2] was born about 1636. [1] She died on 18 January 1696/7, age 60. [2] She married Lieutenant Phineas Upham on 14 April 1658 in Malden. [2][3] Phineas, the son of John and Elizabeth (Slade) Upham, was born about 1635. [3]

vi. Tabitha Wood [2] was baptized on 30 May 1641 at the First Church in Charlestown. [1] She died on 29 August 1642 in Charlestown. [1]
