JAMES JACKMAN (1655–1723), son of James Jackman

RACHEL NOYES (1661–1720), daughter of Nicholas Noyes and Mary Cutting


James, the son of James Jackman, was born on 22 June 1655 in Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts. [1][2] He died there on 16 September 1723. [1][2] He married Rachel Noyes by 1687. [3]

Rachel, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Cutting) Noyes, was born on 20 March 1660/1 in Newbury. [2][3] She died there on 24 May 1720, age 59. [1][2]

Rachel's father refers to her as the wife of James Jackman of Newbury in his will of July 1700. [2]

James Jackman, Jr., age 22, took the oath of allegiance in Newbury in 1678. [4, 181]

James Jackman was admitted to full communion in the Newbury church on 13 May 1683. [5, image 167]

James Jackman of Newbury made his will on 2 July 1722. He left his estate to his sons John, Nicholas, Timothy, and James Jackman and his daughters Rachel Whitten, Joanna Short, Sarah Pettingill, Mary Jackman, and Esther Jackman. He named his son James his executor. He added codicils on 5 February 1722/3 and 16 September 1723, reflecting land transactions. The will was proved on 26 September 1723. Children of James Jackman and Rachel Noyes:

i. Joanna Jackman was born on 25 May 1687 in Newbury. [1] She married John Short on 27 May 1708 in Newbury. [1]

ii. John Jackman was born on 3 February 1690/1 in Newbury. [1]. John married Hannah Smith on 28 November 1717 in Newbury. [1]

iii. Nicholas Jackman married first Mary Morse on 29 May 1702 in Newbury. [1] She is probably the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Morse, born on 10 January 1698 in Newbury. [7] She died on 2 October 1719 in Newbury. [1] Nicholas married second Abigail Pettingill on 2 July 1724 in Newbury. [1] Abigail may be the daughter of Matthew and Sarah Pettingall, born on 17 October 1699 in Newbury. [1]

i. Rachel Jackson was baptized on 7 May 1710 in Newbury. [5, 222] She married Elias Whitten on 27 December 1711 in Newbury. [1]

iii. Mary Jackman was born on 23 January 1694/5 in Newbury. [1] She was alive and unmarried on 2 July 1722.

iv. Sarah Jackman was born on 19 May 1697 in Newbury. [1] She married Benjamin Pettingill of Newbury on 21 January 1718/9. [8] The were published on 22 November 1718 in Newburyport. [7] Benjamin, the son of Samuel and Sarah (Poore) Pettingill, was born on 18 December 1692 in Newbury and died in November 1781. [8]

v. Esther Jackman was born on 5 November 1699 in Newbury. [1] She was alive and unmarried on 2 July 1722.

i. Timothy Jackman was born on 5 October 1702. He died in 1787 in Byfield Parish. He married Hannah Chute.

i. James Jackman married Mary French of Salisbury on 8 December 1721 in Salisbury. [1]
