JOSEPH HIBBERT (bp. 1648–1701), son of Robert Hibbert and Joan Unknown

ELIZABETH GRAVES (b. say 1647)


Joseph, the son of Robert Hibbert, was baptized on 7 May 1648 in Salem. [1][2][3] He died on 14 May 1701, age about 53, in Beverly. [2][3, 10 May][4] He married Elizabeth Graves on 20 October 1670. [2][5]

Bass River in Salem became the distinct town of Beverly on 3 November 1668.

Elizabeth was born say 1647. Elizabeth, the wife of Joseph Hebert, and her daughter Mary, the wife of Daniel Collins, were admitted to the Lord's Supper in the Beverly church on 20 September 1692. [6, 29]

Joseph was a farner. [2]

Joseph Hibbert, Sr. of Beverly made his will on 19 April 1701. He left his wife Elizabeth his moveables and his "small estate" until his eldest son Jeremiah came of age. Jeremiah was to help his mother in managing and approving the estate and if he proved a "Loveing & Obedient" son he was to have half the income of the estate. However, if he were not, then he would only inherit when Elizabeth died or remarried. He left his son Joseph his pasture. Jeremiah was to pay daughter Bridget three pounds or give her a good cow when she reached 20. Joseph was to pay daughter Rebecca three pounds or a good cow. He left his daughter Elziabeth ten shillings. His witnesses testified on 30 June 1701. [2]

On 21 April 1727 Nathaniel Abbot of Andover and Dorcas his wife, Matthew Coy of Wenham and Bridget his wife, Benjamin Haskell of Gloucester and Elizabeth his wife, and Jeremiah Hibbert of Manchester—the heirs of Joseph Hibbert, late of Beverly, yeoman—released rightes in Hibbert property in Beverly. Children of Joseph Hibbert and Elizabeth Graves:

i. Mary Hibbert was born about 1674. [2] She married Daniel Collins on 12 May 1691 in Beverly. [3, 1692][4]

Joseph deeded land to his son-in-law Daniel Collins on 12 October 1696. [2]

ii. Joanna Hibbert was born in 1676. [2][3] She died on 14 October 1678, age about two, in Beverly. [3][4]

iii. Dorcas Hibbert was baptized on 19 June 1692 in Beverly. She died on 16 February 1741/2 in Andover. She married Nathaniel Abbott.

iv. Elizabeth Hibbert was born in 1692. [3] She was baptized on 26 June 1692 in Beverly. [4] She married Benjamin Hascall of Gloucester. [2][3]

v. Abigail Hibbert was born in 1692. [3] She died young. [3]

vi. Jeremiah Hibbert was born on 9 August 1683 in Beverly. [2][3][4] He was baptized on 26 June 1692 in Beverly. [6, 109]He died in May 1743. [3] He married first Mary Derby of Salem on 2 March 1704. [3] He married second Hannah Leach. [3]

vii. Sarah Hibbert was born say 1685. [2] She was baptized on 26 June 1692 in Beverly. [3][4][6, 109] She died in 1700. [3]

viii. Bridget Hibbert was born on 11 May 1687 in Beverly. [3][4] She was baptized on 26 June 1692 in Beverly. [6, 109] She married Matthew Coye of Wenham on 3 January 1711/2 in Beverly. [4][3, Coret]

ix. Joseph Hibbert (twin) was born on 13 July 1692 in Beverly. [4] He was baptized on 19 July 1692 in Beverly. [6, 110] He married Mary Stone after 23 December 1716 (intention) in Beverly. [4]

Joseph was a weaver and ropemaker of Beverly. [3]

x. Rebecca Hibbert (twin) was born on 13 July 1692 in Beverly. [3][4] was baptized on 19 July 1692 in Beverly. [6, 110] She married Joshua Clark on 30 January 1717/8 in Beverly. [3][4]
