SAMUEL FRENCH (d. 1692), son of Edward French and Anne Unknown

ESTHER JACKMAN (1651–aft. 1692), daughter of James Jackman

Samuel French died intestate on 26 July 1692 in Salisbury. [1][2] He married first Abigail Browne on 1 June 1664. [3] Abigail, the daughter of Deacon Henry and Abigail Browne of Salisbury, was born on 23 February 1643/4 in Salisbury. [3] She died on 11 January 1679 in Salisbury. [1] He probably married second Esther Jackman.

Esther, the daughter of James Jackman, was born on 12 September 1651 Newbury. [4] She was alive and a widow on 9 November 1692. She married first Joseph Muzzey on 9 February 1670 in Newbury. [4] Joseph died on 30 December 1680. [4]

Samuel French took the freeman's oath at the April 1663 court in Salisbury. [5, 3: 63]

Samuel's father Edward made his will on 10 April 1673 and, among others, left bequests to his son Samuel, Samuel's eldest son Samuel and Samuel's daughters Abigail and Hannah. [6]

William was a member of the First Church in Salisbury in 1687. [7, 3]

Inventory of the estate of Samuel French of Salisbury was taken on 18 November 1692; it amounted to £497-13-06. The widow received her third. Samuel's son-in-law Thomas Nelson, husband of his daughter Hannah, posted bond on 16 November 1692. Thomas Nelson (on behalf of his wife Hannah), Abigail French, Philip Brown (guardian of eldest living son Henry), John French (guardian of sons Joseph and Nathaniel), James Jackman (guardian of daughter Joanna), Richard Jackman (guardian of son John French), and Joseph Palmer (guardian of youngest daughter Esther) signed an agreement dividing the rest of Samuel's estate on 28 June 1693. The widow Esther French and the parties to the agreement appeared before the judge on 29 September 1692, except for Palmer who appeared on 4 September. Esther French refused administration on 9 November 1692. [2]

The James and Richard Jackman who were appointed guardians of Esther's children Joanna and John were her brothers.
