GEORGE VAUGHAN (c. 1625/7–1694)

ELIZABETH HENCHMAN (c. 1634–1693), daughter of Edmund Henchman and Elizabeth Unknown

George Vaughan was probably born about 1625/7 in England. [1] He died on 20 October 1694 in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. [1] He married Elizabeth Hinksman in 1652. [2]

Elizabeth Hinksman was born about 1634. She died on 24 June 1693. [1] Holman says that she is the daughter of Edmund Henchman. [1] Her last name is spelled various ways, including Henchman. Elizabeth Vaughan, the wife of George Vaughan, died on 24 June 1693, age 59, in Middleborough. [3]

An earlier George Vaughan came to New England in 1631 and returned. There was a William Vaughan who settled in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and a John Vaughan who went to Rhode Island. Holman suggests that it is possible that this George and these other Vaughans were related. [1]

George settled in Marshfield, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He took the oath of fidelity in Marshfield in 1657 and his children Elizabeth and Joseph were born there. He moved to Scituate, Plymouth County, Massachusetts by 31 May 1657, when three of his children were baptized there. He finally moved to Middleborough. He was licensed to keep an ordinary there on 5 July 1669 and he was constable on 1 June 1675. [1]

George made his will on 30 June 1694 and it was proved on 10 November 1694. He mentioned his sons Daniel, George and Joseph and his daughters Mary Washburn, Elizabeth Howland and Mercy Due. [1]
