Matthew Grinnell (say 1589–by 1658)

Matthew Grinnell was born say 1589. He died by 20 November 1658. He married Rose French on 27 August 1615 in Lexden, county Essex. [1]

Rose French was born say 1592. She died after 17 December 1673. She married second Anthony Paine. [1] She married third James Weeden. [1]

Matthew was an inhabitant of Newport, Rhode Island by 1638. [1]

On 20 October 1649 the widow Rose and her son Matthew transferred eight acres in Portsmouth to Lot Strange. [2]

Rose and Anthony Paine had a prenuptual agreement dated 20 November 1658. In this agreement she says has four living children and names three sons: Matthew, Daniel, and Thomas. [1]

On 17 December 1673 Rose Weeden sold property in Portsmouth to her son Matthew for 30 pounds and a promise to maintain her for life. [2]

Children of Matthew Grinnell and Rose French:

i. Rose Grinnell was baptized on 21 May 1616 in Lexden. [1]

ii. Matthew Grinnell was baptized on 18 July 1619. [1] He is probably the Matthew who was buried on 26 May 1620 in Lexden. [1]

iii. Matthew Grinnell

Matthew was freeman in Portsmouth on 10 July 1648. [2] He sold land to his brother Daniel on 2 November 1658. [2]

iv. Daniel Grinnell was born in or before 1635. He died after on 22 September 1709. He married Mary Wodell

v. Thomas Grinnell was baptized on 30 January 1630/1 in St. Botolph, Colchester. [1]
