Daniel Grinell (by 1635–aft. 1709), son Matthew Grinnell and Rose French
Mary Wodell (1640–1697/1701), daughter William Wodell and Mary Unknown
Daniel was the son of Matthew and Rose Grinnell. [1][2] He was born in or before 1635. He married Mary, the daughter of William and Mary Wodell, probably by 25 May 1663.
Mary, the daughter of William and Mary Wodell, was born in 1640 in Boston. [2] She was alive on 1 June 1697, when she renounced her dower and acknowledged Daniel's conveyance of land to their son Daniel. She was probably dead on 8 July 1701 when she did not acknowldege a similar conveyance to their son Richard.
Mary's father referred to her as the wife of Daniel Grinnell in his will of 8 September 1692. [2]
Daniel was a malster. [2]
Daniel, the father of the Daniel who married Lydia Peabody, and the son of Matthew, bought land in Portsmouth in 1656. [3] He was admitted freeman there in 1657. [3]
Daniel was on inhabitant of Portsmouth on 4 July 1657. [2] He was a juryman on 23 April 1667 and 28 April 1669. [2] He was a constable on 5 June 1672 and 1 June 1674. [2] He was a grandjuror on 7 October 1676. [2]
On 25 May 1663 William Wodell conveyed land in Portsmouth to Daniel. [2]
Daniel bought land in Little Compton from John Sherman on 14 March 1679/80. He sould part to William Pabodie on 6 September 1686. [2]
He was in Portsmouth until 31 December 1683, when he and his wife Mary sold land. [3]
By 1687 he was in Little Compton (then in Bristol County, Massachusetts), where on 20 January 1688 he deeded his son Daniel half a lot. He deeded his son Richard the other half in 1694. [3]
Daniel was living in Little Compton on 22 September 1709 when he acknowledged a sale of 150 acres in Little Compton to his son Richard for 700 pounds six years before. [2]
Children of Daniel Grinnell and Mary Wodell:
i. Jonathan Grinnell married first Rebecca Irish. [2] He married second Abigail Ford on 8 December 1698. [2]
ii. Richard Grinnell married Patience Amory on 25 May 1704. [2]
His grandfather William Wodell left Richard a bequest in his will of 8 September 1692. [2]
i. Daniel Grinnell was born about 1660/8 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. He died on 7 January 1740/1 in Saybrook, Connecticut. He married Lydia Peabody.
