Ensign Joseph Gorham (1654–1726), son of Captain John Gorham and Desire Howland

Sarah Sturgis (b. say 1654)

Joseph Gorham was born on 16 February 1654 in Yarmouth. [1, eds.] He died on 9 July 1726. [2] He married Sarah Sturgis. [1][2]

Sarah was born say 1654.

In his "Wast Book," Colonel John Gorham says that Joseph married Sarah Sturgis and lived in Yarmouth. [3] Roger Faxton Sturgis states, without evidence, that Sarah was the daughter of Edward Sturgis, Sr. [4] There does not seem to be any evidence that Sarah was not his daughter, and due to a presumed absence of other Sturgis families in the vicinity, this seems plausible, but not certain.

Joseph, the son of Captain John and husband of Sarah Sturgis, lived at Yarmouth. [1]

i. Sarah Gorham was born on 10 January 1678. She married Ebenezer Howes.

ii. Joseph Gorham was born on 15 April 1681. He married Sarah Kirk of Charlestown on 9 November 1708. [2]

iii. Samuel Gorham was born in October 1682. [2]

iv. John Gorham was born on 28 February 1683/4. [2]

v. Desire Gorham was born in April 1685. She married John Baxter on 11 June 1706. [2]

vi. Isaac Gorham was born in October 1687. [2]

vii. Hezekiah Gorham was born in August 1689 [2]

viii. Josiah Gorham was born on 2 December 1692. [2] He married first Sarah ___. [2] He married second Priscilla Sears on 15 March 1721/2. [2]
