Deacon John Doane (c. 1590–1686)
John was born about 1590. He died on 21 February 1685/6 in Eastham, age about 100[!]. [1] He married, perhaps first, Ann ___ . She died by 1659. He married subsequently Lydia ___.
John was probably the brother of the widow Martha Harding.
John Doane migrated to New England in 1630 and settled in Plymouth. [1] He was a yeoman innkeeper. [1]
On 2 January 1633/4, Mr. John Doane—having already been chosen deacon—was freed from the office of Assistan. [1] He was a frequent committee member, jury member and deputy—see Anderson. [1]
In 1644 the Court granted land to "those that goe to dwell at Nausett [Eastham]." John was an early settler of Eastham and his name appears on a 22 May 1655 list of inhabitants. [2]
John Doane of Eastham, age about 88, made his will on 18 May 1678. He left specific bequests to his wife, his daughter Abigail Doane, his sons John, Daniel, and Ephraim Doane; and his granddaughter Margaret Hicks. At his wife's death the residue was to be divided equally among all his sons and daughters. Inventory was taken on 16 May 1686. [1]
Children of Deacon John Doane:
i. Lydia Doane was born say 1625. She married Samuel, the son of Robert Hicks, on 11 September 1645 in Plymouth. [1]
i. John Doane was born say 1635. He married first Hannah Bangs on 30 April 1662 in Eastham. [2][1] He married second Rebecca Pettee on 14 January 1684/5. [1]
John Doane, Jr. was amitted an inhabitant of Eastham before 1675. [2]
ii. Deacon Daniel Doane was born about 1637. He died on 20 December 1712, age 75, in Eastham. [1] He had an unknown first wife. Shaw says that he "is believed to have" married first Constant Snow. [3] He married second Hebsibah (Cole) Crispe after 28 July 1682. [1] Hepsibah, the daughter of Daniel Cole of Eastham, married first George Crispe. [1] He died on 28 July 1682 in Eastham. [1]
Daniel Doane, Sr. was amitted an inhabitant of Eastham before 1675. [2]
v. Ephraim Doane was born say 1642. He died between 7 December 1699 and 5 March 1699/1700. married first Mary Knowles. He married second Mary (Smalley) Snow.
