CALEB LOMBARD (say 1635–1691), son of Thomas Lombard

Caleb, the son of Thomas Lombard, was born in Barnstable [1] say 1635. He was buried on 7 June 1691 at St. Michael's Cathedral in Bridgetown, Barbados. The church burial registers call Caleb, "Caleb Lombard from New England." [2][3]

Caleb's father left him his house in his will of 23 March 1662/3.

Caleb Lombard took the oath of fidelity in Barnstable in 1657. [4, 179]

On 2 October 1660 the court condemned Caleb for "abominable cursing and swearing" and condemned him to sit in the stocks. [5, 3: 199]

On 2 March 1668/9 Caleb was fined three shillings and four pence and seriously admonished for striking James Cleaghorn. [5, 5: 16]

Caleb was a soldier in King Philip's War in 1675. [6]

On 7 July 1681 Caleb and Joseph Kent were appointed guardians of Joseph Cahoon. [5, 6: 69]

Caleb moved to Monomoit shortly after 1681 when he bought a farm. [2] In December 1686 he exchanged his farm for a large tract at South Sea (Harwichport). By a deed of 8 April 1687 he sold a half interest in the farm. [2]

On 26 March 1689 Bernard Lombard deposed that his brother Caleb had bought four acres about 20 years ago from the Indians in an unauthorized transaction and his mother Lombard had been involved in a compromise settlement. [7]

Children of Caleb Lombard:

i. Caleb Lombard (probable son) married Elizabeth, the daughter of Edward Smalley, on 1 September 1704. [6]

ii. Deliverance Lombard (probable daughter) died about 1716. She married William Nickerson.
