Christopher Osgood of Ipswich

Christopher Osgood was baptized on 17 April 1606 in Newton Tony, Wiltshire, England. [1] He died between 19 April 1650, when he made his will, and 10 October, when it was proved. [2] He married first Mary Everatt on 21 April 1632 at St. Mary's in Marlborough, Wiltshire. [3][4] She was born say 1610. She was buried there on 21 April 1633. He married second Margery Fowler in 1633 at St. Mary's. [4] Margery married second Thomas Rowell of Andover. [5] Thomas died on 8 May 1662 and Margery married third Thomas Coleman of Nantucket. [5] She married fourth Thomas Osborne by 1682. [2]

The immigrants William and John Osgood were not Christopher's brothers. [1]

Christopher came to New England in the Mary and John in March 1633/4 and settled in Ipswich. [5] He was a freeman on 16 May 1635. [5]

Christopher was a bricklayer. [2]

Thomas and Margery Rowell had a son Jacob, who was a trade carpenter, and moved to Elizabeth Town, New Jersey. [5]

In his will of 19 April 1650, Christopher of Ipswich mentions his eldest daughter Mary; his younger daughters Abigail, Elizabeth and Deborah; his son Christopher and his wife Margory. His executors were Mr. John Norton and Father Philip Fowler. [5]

That Christopher called Philip Fowler "father" and made him an executor of his will suggests that the Marjory was the daughter of Philip.

i. Mary Osgood was baptized on 17 March 1632/3 in St. Mary's. She died on 15 July 1675 in Andover. She married John Lovejoy.

In a memorandum to his will, transcribed in Endicott [5], Christopher asks that his eldest daughter not marry without permission of his wife; his three younger daughters were not to marry without the permission of their mother.

Thomas was not named in his father's will, but his mother refers to him in deeds. [5] He may have been born posthumously.
