The inventory of Joseph's estate was presented and administration was granted to the widow Sarah on 25 March 1684, who did not post a bond. On 29 July 1684, when she was about to remarry, her father-in-law Joseph French and her father Roger Eastman petitioned the court to require that Sarah post a bond and to appoint guardians for her young children. On 30 September 1684 the court ordered that the widow of Joseph French, Sr. of Salisbury, together with her new husband Solomon Shepherd, were bound for administration of Joseph's estate. The children were to be maintained without disposing of the land. The court ordered the grandfather Joseph French and Sarah's brother Benjamin Eastman to be guardians of the children. [9]
