William Barnes died on 14 March 1697/8 in Amesbury. [1]

Rachel, the wife of William, died on 9 February 1685/6 in Amesbury. [1]

William was one of the earliest settlers of Salisbury in 1640. He was a freeman in 1641. He was a house carpenter. [2]

William was on the trial jury at the Essex county court in 1648, 1651, 1652, 1663 and 1666; he was on the grand jury twice in 1669, in 1675, 1676, 1677, 1678 and twice in 1680. [3]

William was apointed constable for Salisbury on 24: 2: 1649. He was appointed to a committee to end small cases in Amesbury on 13: 2: 1669. He was appointed constable of Amesbury on 25 March 1673. [4]

On 20: 10: 1649 Edward Colcord was charged with striking the marshall's deputy and William was fined for refusing to assist the deputy in arresting Edward. [5]

William Barnes of Amesbury made his will in 1696. He left land to his son-in-law John Hoyt for his use during his life, but if she survived him, the land was to belong to his daughter Mary Hoyt. He also left bequests to his daughter Deborah, the wife of Samuel Davis of Amesbury; his daughter Rachel, the wife of Thomas Sargeant of Amesbury; his daughter Sarah, the wife of John Harvey of Amesbury; his daughter Rebecca, the wife of Moses Morrel of Amesbury; his grandson William Barnes Morrell, the son of Moses and Rebecca Morrill;; his granddaughter Sarah Hoyt, the daughter of John and Mary Hoyt. Children of William Barnes and Rachel Unknown:

i. Mary Barnes was born say 1638. She died after 1704. She married John Hoyt.

ii. William Barnes died on 11: 4m: 1648 in Salisbury. [7]

iii. Hannah Barnes was born on 25: 11: 1643 in Salisbury. [8] She married John Prouse of Amesbury before 1680. [9]

iv. Deborah Barnes was born on 1: 2m 1646 in Salisbury. [8] She married Samuel Davis on 19: 10 mo 1663 in Salisbury. [10]

v. Jonathan Barnes was born on 1: 2m 1648 in Salisbury. [8] He probably died before 1696, when he was not mentioned in his father's will.

vi. Rachel Barnes was born on 30: 3m 1649 in Salisbury. [8] She married Thomas Sargeant on 2: 1m 1667/8 in Amesbury or Salisbury. [10][11]

vii. Sarah Barnes was born about 1650. [9] She died on 12 April 1720 in Amesbury. [9] She married first Thomas Rowell on 8 Septembery 167_ in Amesbury. [11] She married second John Harvey by 1696. John, the son of William Harvey, was born on 5 February 1654/5 in Boston. [9] He was baptized on 11 February 1654/5. [9] He died on 8 March 1705/6 in Amesbury. [9]

viii. Rebecca Barnes was born about 1654 in Amesbury. [12] She died on 3 April 1727 in Amesbury. [12] She married Moses Morrill. Moses, the son of Abraham Morrill, was born on 28 December 1655 in Salisbury. [12] he died on 20 May 1731 in Salisbury. [12]
