Francis Asten (say 1607–by 1642)

Isabella Bland (c. 1612–1699), daughter of John Bland and Isabel Drake


Francis was born say 1607. He died by 1642. [1]

Isabella Bland was born about 1612. She died on 9 February 1698/9, age 87. [2] She married first Frances Asten. [2] She married second Thomas Levet. [2] Thomas died on 28 Novenber 1696 at about (or above) 80. [2]

A Duke's County deed says, "Thomas Levit and Isabel (sometime Isabel Bland, daughter of John Bland of Martha's Vineyard, desceased) both of Hampton, N.H. constitute their son John Levit their attorney in the settlement of the estate of John Bland by an instrument dated 1691. In support of their claim they file depositions of Nathaniel Drake aged 78, and Abraham Drake aged about 70, both of Hampton, dated April 27, 1671, in which deponents state that they have known Isabel Bland since childhool and that John Bland formerly lived at Colchester, England, and 'he was sometimes called John Smith but his ancestors name was Bland. Samuel Smith aged 29 and Benjamin Gould aged 42 both of the Vineyard testify to the same effect." [3]

Five acres of upland and six acres of meadow in Hampton that had been granted to Frances Asten, the former husband of Thomas Levitt, were granted to Thomas in about 1644.

Thomas wrote his will on 9 July 1692. He mentioned his sons Herzon, Aretas, John and James and his daughters Isabelle Towle, Jemima Knowles and Keziah Tucker. Witnesses were Abraham Drake, Sr., Abraham Drake, Jr. and Robert Drake. Inventory on his estate amounted to £210.01.00. [2]

In her will, Isabella mentioned her daughters Isabel Towel, Jemima Knowles and Keziah Tucker and her granddaughter Sarah Knowles. Witnesses were John Smith, Sr. and John Smith, Jr. Inventory on her estate amounted to £76.11.19 and included property on Martha's Vineyard. [2]

Children of Francis Asten and Isabella Bland:

i. Isabella Asten was born about 1633 in England. [4] She died on 7 December 1719 in Hampton. [4] She married Philip Towle on 2: 9: 1657 in Hampton. [5] Philip was born about 1616. He died on 19 December 1696 in Hampton. [4]

ii. Jemima Asten was baptized on 24: 11m: 1640 in Hampton. She married John Knowles.

iii. Keziah Asten was baptized along with her sister on 24: 11m: 1640 in Hampton. [6] She married Unknown Tucker.

Children of Thomas Levet and Isabella Bland: [2]

iv. Hezron Levet was born in 1644. He died in 30 November in Hampton. He married Martha Taylor.

v. Aretas Levet was born about 1646. He died on 14 January 1739 in Hampton. He married Ruth Sleeper.

vi. Sergeant John Levet was born about 1648. He died in 1726. He married Deliverance Robie.

vii. James Levet was born on 10 November 1652. He died on 4 April 1718 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He marrried Sarah Partridge.
