George Martin (c. 1648–1734)

George Martin was born about 1648, based on his reported age at death. George of Chebacco died on 14 April 1734, age 86, in Ipswich. [1] He had an unknown first wife. He married second Elizabeth Durkee by an intention of 21 February 1712/3 in Ipswich. [1]

This George should not be confused with George Martin of Salisbury who married Susanna North.

Note: Chebacco was a parish in Ipswich.

On 3 May 1734 Elizabeth Martin, the widow of George Martin, deceased, wrote to the judge of probate complaining that administration of her late husband's estate had been given to his son John Martin and his son-in-law John Howard, and she was worried that they would strip her of her allowed third. On 23 May 1734 one third of George Martin's estate of £170.11.20 was allocated to his widow. The rest was divided between George Martin, John Martin, Joseph Martin's representative, Ebenezer Martin and John Howard in right of of his wife Mary. On 24 May 1734 Samuel Choate—guardian of Grace Martin, the only surviving child of Joseph Martin, deceased, and grandchild of George Martin, deceased—acknowledged the receipt of 18 pounds, 19 shillings and seven pence from John Martin and John Howard, the administrators of George Martin's estate. On 25 May 1734 George Martin of Windham, in Windham County and eldest son of George Martin of Ipswich, deceased, and Ebenezer Martin of Windham, also a son of George Martin, acknowldedged receipts of their shares £39-19-02 and £18-19-07, respectively, from John Martin and John Howard.
