Sarah, the daughter of Robert and Anna (Jordan) Cross, was born about 1656. She died by 21 July 1703.
William's approximate birth date comes from three depositions. On 26 March 1672, he said he was 21; on 15 April 1675, he said he was 22; on 27 November 1682, he said he was about 30. [5, 5: 7; 6: 159; 8: 408]
On 29 January 1711/[2?], William deeded his son Ralph, "one-half of the house I now live in, that is, the northwest end, the old end that father Cross lived in." [2]
On 24 November 1668, Robert deposed that he was a servant of William Cogswell and than he lived with Goodman Bill on a farm near the creek by William Cogswell's farm. [5, 4: 66]
William took the freeman's oath on 27 March 1683 in Ipswich. [5, 9: 16]
William Butler of Ipswich made his will on 26 October 1724; his witness took oath on 18 August 1730 and it was proved on 7 September 1730. He mentioned his wife Abigail and former wife Mary; the children of his son William Butler, including his eldest son William; his sons Thomas and Ralph Butler; underage sons Samuel and John Butler; his daughters Sarah Bailey, Hannah Andrews, Elizabeth Bernum, daughter Mary Butler, grandson Job Giddings, granddaughter Sarah Bennett. He noted that he had already given away part of his estate to his children. William named his friend William Giddings the executor. Inventory was taken on 15 October 1730. William was a sizable landowner and his estate totaled £1378-07-06. His executor took oath to the inventory on 7 December 1730 and to his accounts on 27 October 1733. [6]
