THOMAS RICE (bp. 1626–1681), son of Edmund Rice and Tomasine Frost

MARY KING (d. 1710/5), daughter of Thomas King


Thomas Rice, the son of Edmund Rice, was baptized on 26 January 1625/6 in Stanstead, co. Suffolk. [1] He died on 16 November 1681 in Sudbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. [2] He married Mary, the daughter of Thomas King of Sudbury. [3]

Mary King died between 10 May 1710 and 11 April 1715.

Mary's father referred to her as Mary Rice in his will of 12 March 1675/6 and left a bequest to her eldest son Thomas. [4]

Thomas Rice made his will on 11 November 1681; it was proved on 4 April 1682. He made bequests to his sons Thomas, Peter, Nathaniel, and Ephraim, with the residual to go to his wife Mary and, at her decease, to the younger children, not mentioned. He named his brothers Henry and Matthew Rice and Peter King to be overseers of his will. [5]

Mary made her will on 10 May 1710; it was proved on 11 April 1715. She named her sons Thomas of Marlboro, Peter, Nathaniel, Ephraim, Gershom, James, Jonas, and Elisha and her daughters Mary White, Sarah Adams, Frances Allen, and Grace Moore. [5]

Children of Thomas Rice and Mary King:

i. Grace Rice died on 3 January 1653 in Sudbury. [2]

ii. Thomas Rice was born on 30 June 1654 in Sudbury. [2] He married first Mary ___. [5] She died on 13 May 1677 in Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. [5] He married second his cousin Anna Rice on 10 January 1681/2. [5] She died on 2 May 1731 in Watertown. [5]

iii. Mary Rice was born on 4 September 1656 in Sudbury. She died on 22 August 1733 in Lancaster, Worcester County, Massachusetts. She married first Josiah White. She married second Thomas Sawyer.

iv. Captain Peter Rice was born on 24 October 1658 in Sudbury. [2] He died on 28 November 17753 in Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. [5] He married Rebecca How. [5] Rebecca, the daughter of Abraham and Hannah (Ward) How of Marlborough, was born in 1668 and died on 10 May 1749 in Marlborough. [5]

v. Nathaniel Rice was born on 3 January 1660. [2] He died on 13 November 1726, age 65, in Wayland (originally part of neighboring Sudbury). [5][6] He married first Sarah ___. [5] He married second Patience (Brown) Stone in December 1704. [5] Patience, the daughter of Thomas and Patience (Foster) Brown, was born in 1671 and died on 13 November 1722. [5] She married first Daniel Stone, Jr. [5]

vi. Sarah Rice was born on 15 January 1662. [5] She married ___ Adams. [5]

vii. Ephraim Rice was born on 15 April 1665. [5] He died on 25 October 1732 in Sudbury. [5] He married first Hannah Livermore. [5] Hannah, the daughter of John and Hannah Livermore of Watertown, was born on 27 September 1670 and died on 21 May 1724 in Sudbury. [5] Ephraim married second Mary Noyes of Sudbury on 24 March 1725. [5] She died on 11 January 1743/4. [5]

viii. Gershom Rice was born on 9 May 1667. [5] He married Elizabeth, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Haynes) Balcom, born in 1672. [5]

ix. James Rice was born on 31 March 1669 in Marlborough. [7] He died on 14 October 1730 in Worcester. [5] He married Sarah Stone. [5] Sarah, the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Ward) Stone of Sudbury, was born on 14 February 1675. [5]

x. Frances Rice was born on 3 February 1670 in Marlborough. [7] She died in 1767. [8] She married Benjamin Allen by 1690. [8] He was born in 1662 and died on 12 August 1721. [5][8]

xi. Jonas Rice was born on 6 March 1672 in Marlborough. [7] He married Mary Stone on 10 February 1701/2 in Sudbury. [2] Sarah, the sister of the wife of his brother James, was born on 10 August 1677.

xii. Grace Rice was born on 15 January 1675 in Marlborough. [7] She was living on 19 December 1768. [5] She married Nathaniel Moore on 10 February 1701/2 in Sudbury. [2] He died on 25 November 1761 in Worcester. [5]

xiii. Elisha Rice was born on 11 December 1679. [5] He died in 1761. [5] He married Elizabeth Wheeler of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts on 10 February 1707/8. [5]
